Haven't lost any more weight since the initial 1 week post-op

Recommended Posts

I get about 900 cals a day (all full liquids).

I walk at least EOD for 20-30 mins.

A good 20 pounds has stayed off-the other four yo yo.

What gives?

I'm not comfortable lowering my cals.

I have 4 kids and a house to deal with. Eating less made me SO tired.

Any thoughts?

I would like to see a little more weight coming off before I hit my 1 month 'surgiversary' on August 10.

Sounds like the 3 week stall.

It happens around the time you start mushies (which tends to be around 3 weeks out) and can last for a few weeks.

IMO, it's just Water weight masking your true weight loss. Something about moving from liquids to mushies seems to trigger it.

Generally, drinking a lot of Water helps but you probably can't drink a lot of water right now so, hence, the stall.

THANK YOU!!

Ack! Ok..I can't wait to get back to work and get my mind off of all this! LOL

Seems like the more I worry, the more I stall.

I'll try go to work in more Water during the day.

I had this when I had my band and I know it's easy to say this but try not to dwell on it too much. You will find that there are times when you will jump on the scales and suddenly you will have lost a lot and other times when it just doesn't seem to move at all. I'm 3 days behind you and have lost 10lbs since I got home from hospital which seems a bit on the slow side considering how much I'm NOT eating but there again my body has probably been shocked into keeping hold of it. It's been said before as well that the more you have to lose the faster it will probably drop off. Lots of factors, Water retention, hormones, all sorts.xxx

This is pretty classically expected. The initial steep drop is basically due to very low calories, limited diet as well as consumption of the immediate source of energy of thebody from the liver (Glycogen) which is very avid to hold Water. (this latter is the cause of easy loss of the first 2-3 Kg on any diet) The other factor and probably lasts for two weeks is the active breaking down stage after surgery (catabolic stage). Then you will enter a stage where the body is getting adapted to the new weight and figuring a new level of body weight fighting to lose more weight. Thereafter, You lose or gain according to your net balance of intake and expenditure. It is logic to lose 2-3 Kg / month. Good Luck, be moderate in expectations.

Not me, I am always happy so long as it is a loss and not a gain. It took me years to get to where I started, I don't mind if it takes a while to reach my goal, so long as I do reach it.

I agree with you as long as the scale keeps moving down and not up, I am content. The weight didn't come on overnight and so it's not going to come off overnight either (darn it!). I tell Bearded, it's not a sprint, it's a marathon and we'll both be winners (losers) in the end!

How much you are going to lose in absolute pounds or kilos is going to depend on how much you have to lose though. I only lost an average of 7 lb. a month after the first two months, but I got to my initial goal at 6.5 months.

I think many times when someone moves to full liquids they use the stuff that has more sodium in it then what they were getting. You are then just retaining more of the Water.

It happens to everyone for the most part, but if you want, try tracking your sodium amounts, make sure your not getting too much for what you need.

My weight can easily change upwards by 3lbs, if I eat too much sodium in a day.

Back from my "rustic camping vacation with 8 lkids" not to much fun. But as I started mushies....I did the same thing. I remeber the same thing happening when I was banded.....so I am not to worried......clothes getting looser, scale not budging!

Falling back to the consistent 1 1/2 to 2 lbs a week really sucks (emotionally at least for me) but it is the way it went on and the way it really needs to come off! Then no one really notices and it lets me wear all my cool clothes again for a while!

I can add back regular exercise soon....the kids go back to school in 2 weeks and I can add my Water aerobics and weights and walking back each day! I just can't manage it most times during the summer.

But it happened to me before and is happening now......so I am not that worried!

It too shall soon change or I hope so......physics has never let me down before (I used to teach it! years and years ago...............)

Gee, imagine that - rustic camping with 8 kids ... I remember rustic camping with 2 kids and it at times was not much fun either! Can't imagine 4 x as many children.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
