My surgery is next Monday. Other than the stock stuff I was told to get (Protein powder, low-fat broth, Snickers bars, and SF jello), are there any other suggestions to be offered? I want to get stocked up before I go in so I do not have to worry about going out. And not just food. Any creature comforts I should consider? I have the belly dancers planned for my arrival back home on Wednesday.

Smile, people. Life is good!:001_tongue:

If I were you, I would double up on the snickers bars and go for a stripper in lieu of a belly dancer, oh and get some sf popsicles

Definitely SF popsicles - the crystal lite ones are awesome. The belly dancers may actually cause you symptomatic pain in your belly, so perhaps the stripper would be the better bet. You might want to get some dark chocolate M&Ms - you can suck on them and dark chocolate is good for you.

Bearded says go for the stripper too - much more fun than the belly dancers.

Definitely SF popsicles...I would also say some tea( ex. peppermint/chamomille...etc... I never heard of snicker bars, what are they for? I had sx on 8/27, but this is my first time hearing about snickers bars.....I would also be sure to have a heating pad and gas x strips handy because you may experience some major gas pains :-(

Sorry, I did not realize the original post date. I guess I'm late.

I just came across this. M&M's really? candy? Is that really a good choice after having the sleeve with the sugar and all?

I'm only 5 days out - drinking Clear liquids and truly feel hungry. I feel like I need to have some substance - not sure I can last 2 more days for full- liquid stage.

My starting BMI was lower - 32.6 (185 lbs) - only 178.5 now...but I understand lower BMIs lose slower.

Hoping I can hold on.

Hi Coco

I was sleeved on the 19th and am on full liquids - my doc only kept me on Clear Liquids until I could tolerate them very well - then let me try one ounce of full liquid and see if it went well. It did and I moved to full liquid.

BTW - had my favorite food since the surgery tonight - my hubbie took one can of cream of potato Soup and made it with fortified nonfat milk, added 2 T of grated cheese and melted it into it and added 1/4 tsp of liquid smoke (to taste like it had bacon in it without the bacon or fat) then strained it. I had 2 oz of Soup for dinner tonight. Took an hour to eat - 1 oz in each 1/2 hr and it was wonderful!

Good luck!

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
