3 weeks out and eating everything in site

Recommended Posts

I had the sleeve g on july 7th, I starved for 2 weeks, and now I am eating everything in site and a lot of late night snacking....I lost 15 lbs during the first 2 weeks and have gained 16 in one week. I crave everything and as a result I eat what I crave...can't help it. I think my stomach has stretched. I can eat about 2cups of food at one sitting. Will it get better for me?

Why are you doing this? You are sabotaging your surgery? Again, why?

You are also putting yourself at risk for serious complications. You can create a leak.

As far as eating what you crave because you "can't help it". You know that isn't true. It is a choice you are making.

Does your program have counselors on staff? If they don't you might want to look into one privately. You are having issues and we can't really help you here. You have to want to help yourself and you need to do it soon before you cause surgical complications for yourself. I can't believe you can eat two cups of food. I can't even manage 1/4 cup yet.

Please get help. We don't want to see you become ill.

I second RoseBud. I am questioning why you are even on solids at just two weeks out, you should still be on liquids. You are heading down a dangerous road by not allowing your sleeve and staple line the time they need to heal. Do you want to end up back in the hospital with major complications due to a leak? I don't think so. And, I don't know how you can possibly eat two cups of food at one setting. That just seems impossible. I would contact your surgeon immediately and let him know what is going on. I would also seek counseling and set up an appointment with a nutritionist.

WOW -- I can't believe you can eat and drink that much or that you would even want too -- there is something going on and you need to get help and nip it in the bud right now -- not to mention the fact that as everyone else has said, you're jeopardizing yourself and your surgery. GET HELP NOW and contact your surgeon immediately. 16 lbs in one week - OMG I didn't even know that was possible.

I often muse about our food addictions. I think if my jaw was wired shut I'd still find a way.

Hang in there, and I join everyone in suggesting you get help for the head hunger.

All the best.

Yikes!

I have not had surgery yet but I am very worried about you. I am worried you are going to cause a leak in your staple line. I am also worried about such a rapid weight gain. Could it be retained fluids you are gaining? That worries me even more! No one should gain that much weight in a week. Something is wrong.

Honestly......you need to see a Dr. like right now. Did you have your surgery in Mexico or in the U.S.? Get in to see a bariactric specialist if seeing your doctor in person is not an option.

Please keep us updated.

I had surgery the same day as you! I am just now starting mushies. I could not eat that much if I wanted to! I would literally throw it all back up & be miserable.

What was your post-op diet instructions? Does it say you can have regular food at 3 weeks out? Are you making sure you are choosing Proteins first? Are you analyzing whether your hunger is true hunger and not just "head hunger"? I still struggle with the head hunger. But I'm rarely ever physically hungry.

I would suggest you give your surgeon a call. And please keep us updated. We are here to support you & help you.

Do you think this person is real? There has been no feedback since the first post.

I was wondering that myself. I looked at her other posts & she posted at 3 days post-op about being hungry.

I questioned it from the first post. I just don't see it as being possible? But, maybe if they had a surgeon with a really really large bougie, but even then I doubt it very much.

Probably someone just messing with ya.

You can't gain 16 pounds of real weight in one week unless you ate 56000 calories more than you burned. But you can gain a lot in Water weight in a short amount of time.

When you say two cups of "food" what do you mean? A Protein shake? yogurt? baked chicken? At two weeks you should be on mushies or liquids and liquids pass right through you. It's quite possible to have two cups of Soup or Protein Drink and even a cup of yogurt, if it's thin. It's not possible to have two cups of roasted chicken, even years out, so if you are eating like that, I would be on the phone with your surgeon to find out what he actually did to me.

The thing about hunger is that it's multi-faceted. You could be feeling hunger because liquids and mushies are not engaging any satiety mechanisms based on restriction. Or it could be acid because your PPI isn't working (or you aren't taking one). Or it could be "hunger" because liquids aren't mentally satisfying. Some of these things will go away, some you can easily control and some you need to learn how to deal with because they will be an issue your whole life, surgery or no.

And, guys, if people are having problems, accusing them of being posers is not cool. This poster posted late at night yesterday and 24 hours haven't passed yet. It's not unreasonable for them not to have come back yet.

I think she may have had a surgeon that makes large sleeves. In another post a girl said she could eat a whole chicken breast. A medium to large breast could add up to 1 1/2 to 2 cups depending on the size. Again like Mac says, if its thin enough, 2 cups could be really easy for someone with a larger sleeve.

I agree. Let's not throw around accusations. Sometimes I can't get back here for days and days. I do have a family and life that takes priority.

If this person is reading this and you have gained 16 lbs in a week YOU NEED TO GO TO THE DR. I talked with mother who has been a nurse for 30 years. This much gain is a medical emergency. Your body can not handle what is probably Water weight in such a short period of time. You are at risk for a heart attack. Please seek care.

OK..I follow about my poser comment. May have been harsh and unnecessary. For that I apologize. But after all I read, just does not seem feasible. Now, if it is Water weight, then maybe so. But two cups of food at a sitting? Must've been a huge French bougie.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
