Anyone experience long bouts of nausea?

Recommended Posts

I have been extremely nauseated since Saturday around noon, I remember I was really getting hungry and had some precooked chicken I bought at Von's and soon felt nauseated. I felt bad all day Sunday and just didnt feel like eating or drinking. I mean like one bite or sip was more than enough. I did forget to take my nexium on Sunday and wondered that maybe I forgot it on Saturday too, but not sure. I delayed taking my meds today because I didnt want to throw them up again. No fever or major vomiting, just almost constant nausea especially if I try to eat.

Anyone have any ideas on this?

Ruthi, are getting enough fluids in? The first month I was sleeved, I was constantly nauseous. I was also severely dehydrated and learned the nausea was a side effect of that. After a couple of visits to the hospital and getting myself good and hydrated again the nausea disappeared.

no, I am not, I think I have gotten in a cup of Fluid all day today. Just too sick to drink anything. I am thinking of going back to Clear Liquids until this thing clears up. I am so close to throwing up all of the time.

Could be the flu that's going around -- I felt that way all day Friday and Saturday ... I did actually get sick Friday night but the rest of the time just felt like I was going to but didn't ... lots of people at work have been feeling the same way ... hopefully it will pass by tomorrow !

I think you may be right, I have had a pretty uneventful recovery and this is the first time to feel like this. Has to be a virus of some kind. Oh well clear liquids doesnt sound good but neither does anything else right now.

Well Ash got me all hungry for brocoli cheese Soup at Quiznos ... but Bearded turned me down on the offer ... so now I have to figure out something else that sounds good ...

I too have been so nauseated for 2 days. I don't think it's flu. I'm not drinking hardly anything. I've not really gotten any Protein in since surgery. I've spent more than 100.00 on different kinds of shakes and drinks I just cannot stand any of them. It takes everything I can do to get my medicine down without heaving. I considered going to the ER until I checked here and saw others having the same problem. I have zero energy. Don't know how long I can handle this.

Well its 3 days later and I am starting to feel a little better so I do think it must have been a virus of some sort. I had a corporate lunch today and it was the first real eating out episode I have had since the surgery. I couldnt eat enough to make a dent in my food and I just had them put the whole plate in a doggie bag. My boss noticed but I told him I ate too much of the appetizers but he also knows I had a partial gastrectomy last March and knows I havent eaten alot since. Therefore he wasnt really surprised. I did notice how much the others did eat though and thought to myself, OMG, I used to eat that way.

I think Nausea/foamies/vomiting is the worst part of this surgury, and it was something I wasn't expecting.

I did alot of research prior to surgury.... yet didn't absorb this info like I should have. I wasn't prepared for it... But it passes!!!!

Just go back to "basics" lots of Water, clear liquids... etc.

I rember I was about 6 weeks out... feeling good... and my son brought McDonalds... you know those tiny little burgers???

I wasn't "hungry" but old habit kicked in and I took one... had a bite.. it was pretty good... had the second "tiny" bite... and it started to swell in my mouth... I spit it out. About an hour later it started! I started vomiting... and it went on all night! That was my worst experience! My son was kinda laughing... "Death by a burger"

I did feel like I was gonna die! There are rules for a reason... and not eating ground beef was one of them... it was tooo early and the grease I guess just really hurt me. I still don't eat it... and will be 6 months out on 8/6

Kauser, it concerns me when you say you are hardly drinking anything. I was there and ended up in the hospital several times my first month after getting sleeved for severe dehydration and had to get fluids via IV. Please be careful and try to drink as much as you can. I know it is hard, but it is so important you get enough fluids in. Without them, you are not going to start feeling any better.

Have you tried any of the nectar drinks? tiffy says caribean cooler is really good. those seem to be more popular than the milky type Protein Drinks.< /strong>

In order to find a Protein you like and not spend a fortune, here is what I did:

Get samples, not big tubs:

chikenutrition.com will send free samples of their products

Syntrax nectar has a sample pack you can buy

unjury has samples you can buy

Vitalady.com has samples she'll sell of everything she does sell. She makes up the sample bags herself, if the company doesn't provide a sample size

Buy at places that accept returns:

GNC (and I think Vitamin Shoppe) will let you return opened containers of Protein powder, if you find you don't like them. Those are safe places to buy an entire tub.

Use "bariatric" food:

There are a number of companies that sell higher Protein versions of things. Their names are Healthsmart/Healthwise, ProtiDiet, WonderSlim, Focus28, SmartForme, to name a few. These guys have protein hot chocolate, protein Soup, protein sloppy joes, protein oatmeal, protein everything. I don't think most of it tastes good enough to eat once you can eat regular food, but when you are early out and on liquids or softs, protein Soup can give you an extra 10-12 g of protein that you wouldn't be getting otherwise.

In the early days the most important thing is to HYDRATE. Push those fluids. Can't find a Fluid with protein? Any Fluid is better than none. This includes the broth from soup. It's even better to drink juice (with all its sugar) than nothing. You don't want to get dehydrated.

Once you can get fluids in, work on getting protein.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
