How Long Does it Last?

Recommended Posts

How long does the need for so much sleep last? I have never needed more than 5 hours of sleep in years; and since the surgery (6/12) I seem to need at least 8 hours - sometimes more. I went to bed last night at 10 and had my alarm set for 5:30 to get up and exercise -- there was no way - it was all I could do to hit the snooze button, let alone get up and start exercising! I HATE being so tired all the time and having no energy -- it's so unlike me-- I used to be go go go and now I have no energy for anything and have to push myself to do everything.

Anyone have any idea how much longer I'm going to feel this way? :lol0::sleep0::yawn:

For me, once I moved onto full foods, I regained all of my energy. Plus, I added Vitamins which helped a lot.

I agree with Susan that once I moved to solid foods, and started a multi-Vitamin, I felt much better. I have my days still, and need to take a nap. I think it's the meds I'm on more than anything else.

Have you talked to anyone about supplementing with B12? I know my surgeon suggested that I look into it within the next month or so when I start working out.

Maybe I just need to add back in my Vitamins - Dr. Aceves had said wait until I'm on solid foods - and since Dr. Campos told me 4 more weeks of mushies, I hadn't added them back in yet -- I think I will start doing so gradually and see how I feel .. I hate having no energy and I want to start working out this week too!

Have you tried liquid multivitamins?

No ... I did purchase some liquid Centrum before surgery, I just haven't tried it yet - someone said it was really nasty - so I've been hesitant to try it myself ... thinking of getting the gummy vitamins - I think they make them for adults.

There is a pomegranate flavor liquid vit. you can get at costco. Suzanne recommended it to me but I don't like it. That's not to say that you won't like it. As you know, everyone's tastes are different. I have been putting it in my strawberry EAS just to get rid of it.

I personally would kill to be able to sleep like you do. I force myself to start getting ready for bed around 12-12:30 and usually lay there til around 3, and wake up at 5-5:30. I am about to lose my mind due to lack of sleep.< /strong>

So now you're telling me we're going to need to drug you to sleep while you're here? I'll stock up on the Tylenol-PM

I found the liquid Centrum to be gross, but I took it anyway. I figured I paid for it and I needed my vits.

tylenol pm does nothing for me. I take ambien and I have an assortment of other stuff that helps me. Valerian works pretty well and so does Kava Kava. Nothing keeps me asleep though.

Dr. wants me to go back on anti depressants but those make people gain weight and I have a lot of trouble with side effects.

My doctor had me get my Vitamins prior to surgery so I would start them as soon as I got home. I take a complete Multi Vitamin, 1000 units of Vitamin D and a sublingual B12 once a week.

Vitamins are soooo important on this... and should be a way of life.

As for being tired.. it should pass about 2 months. I can rember being so tired and weak.. I could barely blow dry my hair... felt like it took everything I had to do it... but it didn't last long

( thank goodness!! )

I use to sleep all the time.. and on my days off sleep till noon... now... I am up early... even on my days off!

IDK but when I started on Medifast which is mostly Protein and few carbs, I was tired a lot too. After a couple of weeks, I was fine. The body is looking for fuel from carbs and when it doesn't get it, you feel tired and light-headed, etc. Once your body is using fuel from protein and stored fat, your energy returns. Of course I haven't been sleeved yet, so IDK if it will change for me afterward. I'm on about 800-900 c. a day right now, 400 c. from Medifast, the rest from the lean and green dinner I have at night.

I have been reading articles where the studies are showing those who get at least 8 hrs of sleep a night lose more weight than those who only get 4 to 6 hrs a night, so maybe its a good thing.

You have no idea how badly I wish I could

get 8 hours of sleep per night.

The advice we are given over here is to get a regular Vit B12 injection. I haven't had it yet myself but I feel tired all the time too and think it's just a post-op phase that should improve once I am eating more regular foods and off this liquid mush!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
