Calcium Citrate - which tastes best?

Recommended Posts

Like most of you, I have been told to take Calcium (in the form of Calcium Citrate) daily going forward. I have a hard time swallowing pills anyway and really would like a chewable. Has anyone tried the Bariatric Advantage calcium citrate Lozenges? If so which flavor is best? Any other recommendations? I really like the Viactiv Chews - Caramel, but I know those are Calcium Carbonate and not preferred.

I get my calcium citrate from vitacost.com

They are chewable and don't taste that bad. You can get so many things there, and the prices are fabulous. the shipping is the same no matter how much you order. I think it's 4.99

I just spent $120.00 there on my last order.

They also carry lean dessert Protein mix that people on OH rave about. I have tried the choc. coconut and now the fudge pudding, and I think they are okay, but not as great as those folks on OH say. I recently ordered some samples from another web site somebody over there recommended to try their other flavors. I plan to take the samples to Vegas when I go so I don't have to dump a bunch of powder into a zip lock bag. I have to have my Protein drinks! I believe one of the other flavors is called banana bread.< /strong>

They have just about every Vitamin and supplement you can think of at vitacost. I started Vit. D after having that checked. I also get my chewable Multivitamins there. Everything is WAY cheaper than I have seen in any store.

You can dissolve the calcium citrate horse pills in Water too, btw.

That's a great idea.

It's also important to remember that Calcium can decrease the effects of many other medicines by binding to them or by changing the acidity of the stomach or the urine. So take other meds at some other time of day. Also, taking it with a meal is recommended.

Hi! I am a frequent "lurker" as I am currently banded. I am planning on getting the sleeve just as soon as I pay off getting the band (Hope to get the ball rolling to get the sleeve in Dec/Jan). I will be going to Dr. Aceves for the sleeve. I have already been to see him several times with my band and he has been wonderful. He literally saved my life as my surgeon in Phoenix nearly killed my arse......(have band intolerance). Any way, I found this great tasting calcium/magnesium citrate liquid that has a blueberry flavor at the local Vitamin World shop today. I saw the above posts and went to Vitacost.com. They have it there for about 1/3 the price I paid. It is called Lifetime liquid calcium/magnesium citrate 750 mg. It looks like there are several other flavors, if you don't like blueberry. It has 4 gm of carbs, 200 IU of D3, 750 mg of calcium citrate, and300 mg of Magnesium. Hope this helps.

Hey I am glad I could help out with that!

I love vitacost. I have to take a lot of herbs

for interstitial cystitis and they save me a ton

of money.

I buy their chewable calcium citrate and I

don't mind the taste at all. I am not very

fond of their chewable multi Vitamin though.

When I run out, I am going to buy the gummi adult vitiamins at costco.

I really like the calcium citrate Chewy Bites by Bariatric Advantage. I take the lemon flavor. The office lady at my surgeon's office said they tasted like starburst and had me try them at one of my follow-up visits. I don't exactly agree, but they are the best tasting ones I've tried so far. It kind of sucks because I have to take 5 per day to meet my nutritionist's goal for me, many days I just take 3.

Once I got to where I could swallow pills without additional problems (only the same problem I've had for 20+ years - I don't like to swallow pills), I gave up searching for a chewable Calcium form and just tried to get down 6 Citracal Petite tablets every day. It didn't work so well. I would be doing laundry and find caclium pills in my pockets. I had the best intentions of taking them through out the day, but it just wasn't executed. Well, I think I may have found my Calcium regimen. I got some samples of the Bariatric Advantage Calcium Crystals (unflavored) and added it to my Fuzzy Navel Nectar/Crystal Light 24 ounce Protein concoction I drink every morning for Breakfast. No problem, didn't notice it at all. First dose, check. I also got samples of the Calcium Lemon Chews, not bad. I can handle for an after lunch "treat". Second dose, check. I can also gag down a couple Citracal at bedtime . Third dose, check. Between all three dosage forms, I may just get in my calcium.:001_tt1:

I ordered the Lifetime strawberry flavored Calcium Citrate/Magnesium/Vit D supplement last week from vitacost.com

I received it today. As per the reviews, I dumped the bottle into a resealable plastic container to pop in the fridge. It is thick, and has a slight chalky texture. No worse than a Tums. It's only 1 ounce once daily. I tried to swig it all at once, and instantly had a gag reflex. Spit it out, and then sipped it down in 4 sips. Not too bad, taste/texture wise. I have to do something and this is better than chewables or the huge multiple horsepills per day.

Here's the link from vitacost.com

liquid calcium citrate - Vitacost

I ordered the 3rd one down the list.

I will probably try the NSI brand Orange flavor next month. For now, I will tolerate this one.

Also, you can mix this in yogurt, pudding, and baking recipes from the label directions.

The NSI Orange ones are the chewables I was talking about. They are sweet. I am not crazy about them, but I'd rather chew them up than take anymore pills. I chew them up fast and then drink some Water and it's fine.

I will try the ones you're talking about on my next order tiffy. I went to the link you provided and it comes in other flavors too. I never knew they had liquid. I just asked on the phone for chewables, never even thinking about a liquid being available.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
