I attended a seminar on Lap-Band on Thursday. Now I am just trying to do all of things I have to do to get in to see the DR. Mainly save the $500 upfront that the DR and hospital don't file towards insurance. I have been on several diets in the past some have been successful at first and most have failed. I have researched the idea of different surgeries the past few years and this appears to be the best method for me. So I will be researching any and all information related to it.

Mom, do you have Medicare or Medicaid?

Many doctor's offices waive their fee for Medicare/Medicaid patients, so if you do have it you may want to ask.

Worst thing they can do is say no

No I do not have Medicaid or Medicare. I have health insurance through my employer. So I will just have to make it a "priority" to put back the $$$ that is required upfront. As it is important to me to be able to get on the list for this surgery and get it qualified by the insurance. I meet the criterias for having the surgery so I just have a few more hurdles and I will be on my way to a healthier me.

Thanks for the welcome. I look forward to learning from the information that is posted on this website. Nightingale I noticed your comment at the bottom that you were hoping your last fill hadn't given you problems I assume that you have had problems with fills in the past by that comment. On a norm how often after the surgery are fills required. I know for sure that the surgeon I want to do the surgery will be the one that does that as well. I noticed some on here were looking for dr's that did that. I am assuming because they went elsewhere besides where they live. But thankfully this surgery is now available closeby to me...which is what I had been waiting for.

Hello all, I am also from Kentucky. I had my first doctor appt. today. WOW, all the appointments I now have in June...gezz!

I am glad I found this board and look forward to reading and posting. The doctor says I need to lose between 100-120 pounds to be healthier. I am determined I will.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
