I had my surgery July 10. I've been doing okay, but last night, I had a really rough time. I had a sharp pain on my right side, underneath my right breast. I thought maybe it was just gas pain. Then, my right hand kept going numb all night long, but I wasn't laying on it or anything to cause it to go numb. I've lost quite a bit of weight fast and I'm really worried this may be a sign that my heart is having trouble. Did anyone have this? Does anyone know what I should do?

I had something similar to that, actually. It turned out I was severely dehydrated and had developed a kidney infection. I had a lot of nausea and dizziness, but nothing ever went numb, so I am not sure about that. If it keeps up, I would definitely have it checked out, better safe than sorry.

You need to talk to your doctor... intense, unexplained pain can be so many things.

But, if it makes you feel better, your heart is actually more on the left side of your body. Also, it's normal to lose anywhere from .5 to 2 lb. a DAY when you are on liquids.

Hope you are feeling better Rosey!

Let us know what your doctor says. I'll be praying for you.

I know how frustrating not being able to feel your hand and arm are.

I have something called Thorasic Outlet Syndrome.

I can't feel my right hand or arm most of the time.. Actually it effects my whole right side. SO I can totally realate to you.

Hope this finds you doing much better.

Rosey---

I had my surgery on the 11th. I also the other night had pain on my right side. Before I went to bed that night I swallowed my pills (whole) with a big gulp of Water. They did not get stuck however as I was laying in bed, I had pain in the same area as you. No numbing of the arm or hand though. Nothing the next day or since, however it did upset me. I just thought it was becasue of me swallowing the pills and gulping the water----hasnt happened since.

If yours doesnt go away or hasnt GET IT CHECKED

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
