Norma 10 Posted July 22, 2009 Hi, It's official. I get to become a sleeve sister with Dr. Aceves' assistance on Oct 30. Yes, I will be out of the Fat girl costume by the following halloween. Maybe next year I can go as Lady Godiva! I am so excited. My friend, Linda, a cardiac nurse is going with me. She is my support system. Although her husband Pete is not too sure about the two of us going to Mexico, he supports my decision to have the surgery. I have no fears. *susan* 1,709 Posted July 23, 2009 Congratulations, Norma. Originally my 77 year old mother was going to go with me, because my husband had just started a new job and had no vacation time. He was really worried about us traveling to Mexico as well, so ended up taking the time off without pay. He was pleasantly surprised when we got there, as Mexicali really is one of the safer areas. Plus, if you do like we did and stay at the hotel for dinner and don't go out wandering around much, you will be fine. In the end, I am glad my hubby went though, I needed him with me. Norma 10 Posted July 24, 2009 Too bad you can't take the same time off that I have. I am getting excited as I have never gotten this far before. I have figured out the financing but still have to earn another 3,000 before Oct. I applied for the passport today. I am just getting the card since I don't expect to fly into Mexico. My photo was a lot better than my driver's license one. Ky.hen 5 Posted July 24, 2009 We applied for the passport card too. Our tickets will cost 450. if I book them now. You got a good deal on your tickets. We will have a 6 and 1/2 hour flight. Can you change your surgery to the first of the month? I have some sick days that I could use but I hate to do that to the teacher I work with. I have 3 special needs children in my kindergarten class this year and I don't like to leave them with a sub. Did you get the special price at Dr. Aceves hospital? That would help alot.
