Losing 1-2 pounds a week.. is that ok?

Recommended Posts

Hello Everybody,

I am new here. I got VSG on May 26, 2009 since then I have lost 25 lbs. I am working out 3 times a week with a personal trainer. My question is.. is it ok to lose 1 or 2 pounds a week? For whatever reason I thought I was supposed to lose weight quicker than that...

Thanks for your help !

Loli

I think we are all different. I am a bit of a slow loser too. My weight loss is about 1 to 2 a week and that goes on for about 2 to 3 weeks then hit a stall, then pick up with the same slow weight loss and hit another stall etc etc. I know the heavier your are, the faster you lose at first but I think we all level off eventually.

Hi Loli, welcome to our forums. We are so glad you joined us and look forward to getting to know you.

Like Ruthi said, weight loss is different for everyone. Some people lose much faster than others. I lost a pound a day for the first month, then slowed down a bit, then hit a plateau and right now I am averaging about one to two pounds a week. I think you are doing great and wish you much continued success.

My VSG surgery was June 17th with Dr Aceves. I have lost 20lbs and am averaging 2 lbs a week. I thought it would come off faster even though my BMI was low to begin with..I figure by Nov or Dec I ought to be @ goal!

That's GREAT Deb ... I was doing pretty good but this past week I haven't last a pound -- didn't gain anything either, just haven't lost -- everyone says that's normal, so I'm not too upset. Keep up the good work!

I think 2 lbs a week is great! I didn't lose every week.

I haven't dropped anything in weeks. I think I might be getting ready to though. I ate very badly at the county fair yesterday and I didn't gain anything. That usually means I am about to lose a couple. I only have 5 more lbs that I want off and I will consider myself done. I bounce around between 145-147-148 but I have been 145 for a few days now. I just want to see 140 and if a couple more were to fall off, that would be fine. I don't see that happening unless I did really hard cardio every single day, the way I did when I got my band. I don't have that motivation anymore.

Wow, Congrats. I guess I missed that you were almost at your goal. That is fantastic. I am so happy for you.

Hopefully by end if year I will be pretty close. I don't have a # yet. I will go more by appearance.

I am sure you will get your last few #'s off. carol

Most lightweights get to goal around 6-12 months out. It may be "only" two pounds a week but if you only have 60-70 to lose, well, that's good enough to get there that fast! :thumbup1:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
