This is gross, but...I need to know!

Recommended Posts

I have been sleeping on my back since the surgery and on an incline of pillows since my surgery last Tuesday. Last night, I woke up and my behind was NUMB from being in that position so long, so I got comfortable, took the pillows away, and slept on my side the way I like.

So now two of my incisions are kind of oozing. They had been bleeding a little because there are some tiny spots of blood on my nightgown, but now they are just oozing clear stuff. Not much is coming out at all, but I don't want to make it worse! What can I do to make this stop??? Sorry for the grossness of this post!

NOT gross---

What I would do is keep some kind of banaid on them. I slept on my side from the day after surgery. Kept all me incisions covered untill last night. Just keep them covered---that should help

During the day I would be inclined to let the air get to them whilst you are resting as that will encourage them to dry up. Cover them at night and when you are dressed and active.

We were told that some oozing, called seroma, is quite normal. This is evidenced by the oozing, usually one to four weeks after surgery. They suggest warm compresses and a cut up kotex to collect drainage. Hope this helps!

Not gross at all! I have not had VSG surgery yet but had surgery a year ago on my neck. The insision oozed for several days after the drain was removed. As long as it is not foul smelling and/or you are not running a fever you are fine. Don't leave it covered too much though. Air is good for them to heal. You will need to buy new nightgowns anyway from all the weight you are going to lose!
