Does anyone know? I mean I get the soda thing, but why not coffee?

I think early on it's because coffee is considered a natural diuretic and you need to stay hydrated. I've been drinking coffee (about 1/2 cup) for a few weeks now and I'm doing fine. I know another on this site that started drinking coffee on day 6 following surgery.

coffee can be hard on the tummy early out. Caffeine can be a diuretic. It can also be an appetite stimulant.

In my program they say to wait on caffeinated drinks until you have already consumed 64 oz. of non-caffeinated fluids that day.

I am just glad to hear you can drink coffee after surgery!!!! I really enjoy my morning coffee time (the computer and my coffee cup). Someone told me my taste may change after surgery, and I may not like it anymore. I would be fine if my taste for some things changed but I do enjoy my "coffee time" ..... I guess it could be "Protein time instead"

I don't like coffee but some of my friends that do make "protein coffee" for Breakfast in the morning. They add cold Water to a Protein Powder and add that sludge into their coffee instead of Creamer. It's supposed to be pretty good. I've done it for hot chocolate and it works, but I like my ready-made Protein hot chocolate better.

MacMadame, I tried the Protein hot chocolate and it didn't work out so well for me. When added to the Water, it turned into a giant clump of goo! I ordered the same stuff you told me, but not sure what I did wrong.

What temp was the Water? I get mine pretty hot and it always dissolves pretty well.

I heated my Water for 1 1/2 minutes in the microwave, the same as I always do for regular hot chocolate.< /strong>

Weird. I do heat it for 3 minutes, but 1.5 should probably be fine.

Ms Susan

I am not sure of the hot chocolate recipe you are using but if it is a powder try this.

make a slurry of the powder by adding 1-2 tblsp of cold Water to the powder first to make a paste. Then add the hot Water. That should eliminate the lumps.

BTW where can I find this recipe. I am coffee drinker and drink way too much. I will need to cut down on it for awhile and this sounds like a good substitute if it is no sugar and low fat.

Thanks

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
