Should sipping be getting easier?

Recommended Posts

My sipping has improved a lot. When I first got home, it took me an entire day to get down a bottle of Special K Protein Water. But yesterday, I was able to get it down in 3 hours. I find myself having to constantly remind myself to sip sip sip. I was never a big drinker before, so carrying a jug of crystal light around feels odd. I'm also having to really work on taking too big of sips. I am a major gulper. I love just swigging down my drinks, but I can't do that anymore. Its all very new to me right now, but the pounds are disappearing so its all good. (Except for the head hunger I get when I see food commercials on TV :-(.

Renee with Dr Aceves was the one that told me that the limited 2oz every 15 min was just for the 1st 3 days. I told her that some of these pre op instructions were not very specific and that was causing confusion. She said if I could tolerate it, drink as much as I wanted. It would be a good thing.

It true that food does not get stuck like it does with the band. However, once you move to solids, you will have to be extremely careful. You will vomit food back up. If you eat too much, you'll be really happy it comes back up. It's painful to be too full. It's easy to eat too much until you learn how much to eat. It's that deal that the brain waits to tell the stomach it's full. I don't feel full, but 10, 15 min later, I am in pain. I have learned to stop before

I am full.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
