I agree with Wasa, you've already proven you have the determination and drive to do brilliantly with a purely restrictive procedure. On that strength, I wouldnt even look at a bypass, I'd go the sleeve. Personally, my band has been trouble free and if I had a slip, I'd consider banding again first and foremost if that were possible, but I think I'd give the sleeve a good hard look and if rebanding isnt possible, then I'd definitely go the sleeve.

I had the sleeve on July 2nd, 2007.....lost 173 pounds so far...no hair loss...no illnesses...heck, I never even went back to see my surgeon after the procedure..I HATE DOCTORS!!! But I love losing the weight. The band is so HIGH MAINTENANCE...all the go to the Doc to have a fill, or its too full...or it needs to be refilled...it flipped, it slipped, it rotted, its being rejected by my body....to heck with all those possible problems. I took the permanent solution...I have no desire to ever have a reversal....and even if there were health complications.....I was over 430 pounds...Id rather DIE than go back to being alive in that state. I hated it...I couldnt move, I could barely bathe...I couldnt sleep, I couldnt stay awake......it was worse than death...it was torture. I was trying to kill myself inderectly.....drinking like a fish....drugs.....you mame it, I was doing it hoping to have a heart attack....amazed that it hadnt happened already.

I may be wrong....maybe its not a common enough procedure yet...but Ive heard of LOTS more complications with BYPASS than I have with the SLEEVE....not something that helped me make my decision...but it was a nice bonus. The deciding factor for me was the promise that I WOULD NEVER FEEL HUNGRY AGAIN...because the "hunger hormone" was removed with the portion of the stomach that was removed....THIS IS NOT TRUE!!!!!! But the promise sounded good....I get hungry as a horse when its time to eat!!! And its time to eat like 5 times a day because the portions are so much smaller.....so it was a broken promise, but one Im not upset about.

Whatever you decide...I wish you the best of luck and hope you have NO COMPLICATIONS at all.

I think it's misleading when people say "you'll never feel hungry again". You won't feel appetite hunger caused by ghrelin for at least the first year, but there are other ways our body tells us that we're hungry and we do feel those.

Your stomach isn't the only part of your body that produces Ghrelin, your intestines produce some as well, just tiny amounts.

I can't say I experience hunger very often. Mostly I'm bored and want to eat.

Since you are getting a sleeve you have the luxury of no aftercare. This time you won't slip, erode, barf all the time, none of it. You get your surgery and move on with your life.

I think you'll find the sleeve soooo much easier than banding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
