Jellico 0 Posted August 26, 2009 Doctors are only human and they are all different. I have followed people who had VSG with 6 incisions (I had 5), post op drainage tubes ( I didn't have one), staples to close their incisions (I had sutures that dissolved), oversewn staple lines (mine wasn't) and pain med pumps on their IV's (I didn't have or need one). It's the results that count.
kromrider 3 Posted September 5, 2009 Dr. Pomp oversews the staple line.

cygnusatratus 73 Posted January 24, 2013 I asked Dr. Elariny about this. He says he only oversews if it looks like a portion of the staple line might need it (i.e. some issue with staple line being imperfect)
cuteasabutton 19 Posted February 8, 2013 Dr. Garth Davis in Houston does not over sews he feel it causes more leaks. I did not have a drain either!
Oliver's Mom 258 Posted February 8, 2013 My surgeon oversews. He's a 'belts and suspenders' type of guy. He's a MA surgeon. My husband (RN) works in the OR at a different hospital and the bariatric surgeons oversew there as well. I had no problems post-op at all.
TheCurvyJones 721 Posted February 8, 2013 According to his website, Dr Guillermo Alvarez also oversews. yup. I can ask my friend who had hers done in the US, not sure if US doctors oversew.
Olivereindeer 30 Posted February 11, 2013 I am aware that it would make your situation easier to have the band and sleeve in one surgery however it is my understanding that this seriously increases the complication of a leak. I would be very reluctant to have an all in one procedure.
