Surgery August 10th with Dr. Aceves

Recommended Posts

Is anyone else going to be having surgery on August 10th or the week of August 9th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali? Hope someone else is...I'll be there.

Know what's funny? I was going to have band surgery but after researching it, decided it wasn't for me. Decided upon VSG, which my band surgeon also does. Despite trying to get a hold of him to discuss VSG and his assistant telling me he would call me back about it, he never did. Even contacted another local WL surgeon who performs all the different types of surgery, no response at all from them. My insurance DOES pay for this, but I can't get anybody to call me back re VSG. Isn't that odd? The only people who got back to me on setting this up is Nina at Dr. Aceves. I take that as a SIGN that he IS the right doctor for my surgery, so I'm paying out of pocket for this even though my insurance will pay. Sometimes I feel a little guilty about spending the $$ when I have insurance, but my husband assures me this is more important than anything else. He's a very supportive and all-around good guy. I'm blessed. He's taking a week off work to take me down there and stay with me.:biggrin0:

It's ridiculous that none of the surgeons called you back but I'm glad you're having the surgery with a wonderful surgeon. Dr. Aceves is skilled, certified, experienced, caring, and professional. You hubby sounds like a real keeper and he's right, there is no amount of money that comes before you getting to a healthy weight and staying in his life.

Congrats on your sleeve date and I hope many others from here will be buddies getting sleeved at the same time. That will probably be too soon for me to get the financing together. Will look forward to hearing about your journey.

Congrats on your surgery date - one month out from Bearded's. I am sure you will do great and I am sure there will be others down here the same time as you are - you just may not know it ahead of time, but I'm sure you won't be alone - it is very busy here this time - every room is full. It will be nice, too, to have your husband here to share the entire experience with you.

Once all of us who are patients of Dr. Aceves get about a year out, we should plan a reunion in Mexicali to show him how he has changed our lives.

I think that is an AWESOME idea Susan -- he would love it - we could do it at the Lucerna and have him come for dinner or something -- what a GREAT GREAT GREAT idea.

Monday is YOUR day! I will be thinking of you and know that you will have a successful surgery. Thanks for all your posts on this forum. I have learned a lot from you and the others. Hope to have mine done before too long. First step: I applied for a passport this week!

Thanks guys! I'm excited/nervous - hope everything goes well, I'm sure it will. Not too worried about the surgery part - it's the after-surgery life-changing events that have me thinking a lot about.:blushing: I so appreciate all the support and knowing that you're with me every step of the way. I'll report in as soon as I can afterward. Taking the computer. Spending tomorrow night in San Diego, and then driving into Mexicali Sunday morning to arrive no later than 1:00 PM at the hospital to begin the round of tests. Besides blood, EKG, chest x-ray, urinalysis, what else do they do? And will the anesthesiologist give me Lidocaine before IV insertion if I ask? IVs in the hand hurt and the Lido makes it go into without pain, even if the drug stings a bit. Anyone ask for that? Let me know. Thanks:biggrin0:

I HATE an IV in my hand so I asked them to put it "somewhere else" they did, they put it in my wrist. Also they did all of this while I was asleep, with drugs to relax me as they took me to surgery. They will accommodate you all you have to do is ask!

Don't forget your papers to get back across the border. What border crossing? The traffic in TJ can be bad esp on a Sat.

I have a passport so no problem. We're not going thru Tijuana; it's a straight shot from San Diego to Calexico and crossing there.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
