Hyaluronic Acid-would it help with recovery from surgery?

Recommended Posts

I use a topical lotion that contains this for my knee, shoulder and back pain. I saw that they have a oral liquid too. Anyone else use this?

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) occurs naturally throughout the body but diminishes with age. New research shows that HA may be the specific component the body uses to block the process that produces inflammation and pain. HA appears to reduce the body's overreaction to injury or trauma.

Pain and inflammation occur when white blood cells in the body move to the site of the injury, a process called The Adhesion Cascade. Research shows that HA binds to some of the white blood cells preventing their overreaction to the injury. Thus, HA appears to reduce the body?s overreaction to injury or trauma by blocking the Adhesion Cascade. Enough white blood cells reach the site for effective healing, but not enough to cause swelling, inflammation and pain. In the body, HA breaks down into glucosamine, providing additional support for joints.

Heh.

Some people swear by aloe vera juice for that as well. I just followed my doctor's orders.

I kind of wondered why they don't use muscle relaxers instead of pain pills. Most of the pain is coming from the abdominal muscle being messed with?

really cool breakdown on the HA reaction Jaffa - THANX! i just know it helped me after a back injury - i still take it when it flares up - i like the Solgar brand that has MSM/Glucosamine/Chondrotin with HA in it too - its kind'a a big pill -

and your post brings up a very valid point with me - how IS taking meds after vsg??

I'm new here and still in the 'thinkin' stage about getting this surgery - and I have to take a few pills in the day and alot of time a sleeping med too - anyone here have to take meds and find it hard to do? and what about carbonated beverages? I may drink half of one in a day - i'm not a hard soda drinker - but can you drink them at ALL after vsg?? Thanx for any input u guys have on this!

I have a difficult time still swallowing any pill whole - and I am 3 weeks out from surgery -- I no longer have to crush them; however, I do have to cut them into small pieces to get them down and usually have to take them with yogurt or applesauce so they slide down easier.

If you are taking any medication that is XR you need to have your PCP write you a script for ones that are not XR and can be cut, crushed or liquified.

My doctor does not recommend carbonated drinks, at least until you hit the solid food stage - and then I am not sure. I don't drink them and haven't in 25 years, so it's not something that I ever bothered checking into.

Welcome to the forum!

You can't take anything the day of surgery. I took my synthroid with the antibiotic at 10 PM the night before surgery. Mexico was 4 hours behind NY time so it was fine. Day 2 I took the synthroid without a problem. When I came home, I didn't crush any pills/vitamins and took them with no problem.

It all depends on your surgeon. Mine says none and that's fine with me because I'm a Water, coffee, and crystal lite drinker.

Most surgeons say no carbonated beverages with any of the surgeries. There are different reasons they give, but very few say "sure". :cursing:

I can take any pills I used to take at this point. I couldn't at first... I lost my pill swallowing mojo for a while!

That gives me hope Mac -- I've progressed from crushing them to cutting them into small pieces ... however, I have to take them with yogurt or applesauce to get them down. So hopefully one day I'll get my mojo back too!

Ron, for about the first four weeks I was only able to take my meds by crushing them. But, now I also have no problems whatsoever taking them all whole.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
