I know what you mean about food: the flavors are missing; nothing takes really GOOD to me. I just eat to live, not for pleasure. I suppose that's not a bad thing when you still have 60 more pounds to lose, but it does sort of take all the fun out of a social dining experience, know what I mean? I think it's just part of the sleeve experience. Your tastes go flat.

I haven't had the experience of food tasting any different, but I do have far fewer cravings. And when I do have cravings, I will have a little bit of whatever it is...and that's enough. It's really pretty awesome that a little bite of something is enough. I no longer feel the need to keep eating something that tastes really good. I do struggle still with finishing what I dish out sometimes, but I'm working on it. I haven't ever eaten to the point of making myself sick like I've heard from some people, so I guess I must have a pretty good handle on it now.

That is just so weird though! It is good for me because I am losing weight but I really do not like to eat out at restaurants anymore. They give you such big portions, it looks like I did not even touch my food and the waitress is like you did not like your food? I do not want to tell her I had surgery and go through the whole ordeal with someone I do not even know.

I go to lunch with a bunch of other Air Force spouse's on Wednesdays after we go bowling. They all know about my surgery, but I get those kinds of questions asked by the servers as well.

The one thing I've done to help combat any comments from anyone is, I order an appetizer, or Soup. I've also learned to kind of "move" food around to the edge of my plate to make it appear that I've eaten more than I really have consumed. My husband, son and I go out to dinner once a week, and what we've started doing we order 2 regular meals, and I share one of them with my 11 yr old son.

I also get a to-go box at the beginning of a meal and put half of my food in there. That way I don't have to look at it, and the servers don't know how much I've eaten.

Thanks a bunch. It's finally starting to slow down this last week. I was happy to see the scale only move about 1.5lb.

Just checking in with my fellow August 2009 Sleevers.

How are all of you doing? I see a lot of tickers that I don't think have been updated.

Mine is accurate. Doing fine weight-wise. Almost at goal, but the last 14 are gonna be a bugger!

Hey there DownInSocal! I've been doing pretty well. I'm down 100 since last August and down 146 from my heaviest. All I have jto do is "eat the Protein first" and I'm full before I get to the starch.

Mine is accurate. Keep hitting plateaus about every 10 lbs, which is very frustrating. Down from Size 28 to size 18-20 depending on the brand, so I can't complain.

Welcome to "the other side". The first few weeks can be tough, but hang in there. I have not regetted my choice for a minute.:frown1:

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
