Newbellina....VSG with Dr.Joya 7/10/09

Recommended Posts

Well, I've been overweight since I was 11. Then obese since 28...

Now I'm 37 and the highest weight I've ever been.

Did WW and lost 13 pounds..which came back because I have no willpower, self-control, etc.

I'm sorry..but I think vanity is a GOOD thing. If I'd had enough of it, I probably would have more self-control.

VSG is my last resort. Dr. tried to put me on diabetes meds (metformin), but I would rather just get FORCED to be healthy by removing the room that my tummy has.

This pre-op diet has been hellacious....but I know it will be worth it in the end...

I'm SO excited to find this forum! I needed a place like this :wink0:

Welcome to the forum!

VSG was a last resort for all of us! None of us could do it without surgery so you are not alone!

The pre op diet is hard but just keep remembering, it is just for a short time, it is a few weeks (pre/post op diets) out of your entire life. When head hunger kicks in just keep telling yourself that you can have that food item, just not right this minute. People feel like this is going to last forever and it's not, it's a short time only. That's how I deal with head hunger.

Stick around, ask questions, we all know what you are going through.

Welcome. Congrats on making a decision and choosing to change your life. WASa is right about the pre/post -op diets -- it may seem as though they will never end, but they do ... and everyday things get better and better and better ... you'll be happy with your choice. Ask any questions you want, someone will have an answer for you !

Welcome. I am new too. I haven't set my surgery date yet but will have the sleeve with Dr Aceves. I am happy for you that your wait is less than a week away! I totally relate to being overweight and obese forever - started for me at age 5 or 6 and then obese since high school --for past ten years or so I have been around 300lbs on a short 5'3" body. I think that food addiction is harder than nicotene or alcohol because we can't just quit eating food altogether. Please post about your surgery experience and about whether you get any vacationing in at the same time.:tongue_smilie:

And there are NO clothes for people who are short and fat, right!?!?!?

I will be there for 4 days and my surgery is the day after I get there ( to Puerto Vallarta) so I'm thinking I probably won't get to have much :)

I am glad you found us too. Welcome!

I lurk at OH because there are more people who have had the sleeve a long time over there, but I love this site. I find it very difficult to keep track of things over there. I love the way this site is set up.

You're going to love having a sleeve.

I agree..OH (for me) is hard to navigate and keep up with what I've posted.

Yes, that's my big complaint about it.

I have a few forums I love there but they are slow moving. Any forum that has more posts than fit on one page in a day ends up being a major pain to keep up with.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
