Recommended Posts

:tongue_smilie::biggrin0:Hi, hope everyone is well. i am trying to prepare myself in every way i can for my new life:biggrin0:. so i am trying to come with many alternatives to eating in a unhealthy way. i know it is different for everyone but the ideas i hear can help me to think of more. what do you do when you feel like eating badly? how do you stay in control of your eating habits?

I rarely feel hungry and I crave healthy foods. If I want something fattening, I just take a small taste and that's all I need. I love the fresh bing cherries that are in season now and they are very filling. Just substitute something tasty and healthy for the junk and it becomes a habit.

I mostly read. I keep a bottle of Water close by too. I also get online and mess around for awhile. Theres plenty of other things I could do, but dont usually. I take my daughter swimming for us to get some exercise. Sometimes I just go shopping too.

Good luck

That's a great question! My surgery is scheduled for Aug. 13. I went yesterday for the pych test and he asked me what I would do instead of eat. I really don't know the answer. I usually overeat when I'm at work when I'm stressed. Which is often. Being at work I can't exactly just get up and go for a walk or file my nails until the urge passes. I too am looking for some alternatives. Best of luck!

i don't know if this will help but when i am in class and i am really dressed i drink until i am full and write do what i am feeling and why. i don't write it the whole time because i am taking class notes too but when it pops into my head i put it down. i do the when i am on my computer i keep word or a notepad ready at all times. after awhile you start to see a pattern and understand your behavior more. after you see the patterns it is easier to come up with solution that are healthy for you

I'm so busy, I never have time to eat except planned meals. So get lots of hobbies!

And, if you are tempted by stuff you've decided not to eat, then I find it's a lot easier to deal with if I leave where the stuff is. Since my surgery, "out of sight, out of mind" works well for me. (Pre-op, not so much.)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
