For those that went to Dr. Aceves...

my DH will be going with me and he is wanting to know about the cafeteria in the hospital. I'm assuming that is where he will need to go to get his meals & he'd like to know what to expect...what's served, what's the cost? Also, how about the Lucerna hotel? What is available there & what are the prices like?

DH is big on budgeting, so he's putting our "Mexico" budget together right now. :confused1: One more thing, if we use our Visa debit card should we expect extra charges? We don't want to carry any more cash that is necessary.

I heard the food was really good there. My friend went with her brother and he loved their food. I don't know about the cost, but I can't imagine that it would be expensive . I can ask her if you don't get some more replies, but I am sure you will.

It is very good food and it is very affordable too. I'd say about $6.00/meal and it's a LOT of food. They have traditional Mexican food, Soups, burgers, sandwiches, oh... their OJ is fresh squeezed.

There are other restaurants around the hospital that are verrry easy walking distance. Less than a block.

At Lucerna they have everything but it is a bit more expensive.

The businesses won't charge you more for using a credit/debit card but your bank will. I don't recall how much, maybe someone else knows? It has to do with the exchange rate. Since I'm not banded I don't have to go there anymore so I haven't used a credit card there in ages.

I was told banks charge 3% if you use the credit card by Yolanda.

My DF says the food in the cafeteria is great and very reasonable - he got a club sandwich with fries for $3 and a hamburger and fries for about the same. He said the food was great.

I used my debit card at the pharmacy and was charged $.12 on a $12.31 purchase.

dinner at the resort - full dinner with desert and drink and tip was about $28.00. and it was more food that I could eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
