dange25 57 Posted June 28, 2009 I got my quote for the sleeve proceedure and there is a $2205.50 cost for Prosthetics!!! Is this bougie left in place? I was under the impression that there were no **prosthetics** well...not over $2000 worth? Can anyone shed some light for me please... Many thanks

Many thanks A bougie is just a tube they put down your throat during surgery and into your stomach. They kinda measure around it when they cut. The only thing left in your body that wasn't there to begin with are staples. I think you aren't even getting a kiss with this one. ;o))))

NO kiss ... maybe at least some KY? 1 Skinnygirlfightingtogetout reacted to this
Elisabethsew 50 Posted June 28, 2009 You should definitely ask for an explanation. I'm not familiar with you health care system but I'm sure you can check what other surgeons charge.

Do you think it could be the staples? The staples are verrrry expensive. On 2nd thought that is doubtful. Hospitals usually charge 10x their cost and the staples are more expensive than $2K. Maybe it is for the bougie?

If that's the case, I'd pass and save the $2K...

Sometimes they use an endoscope in place of a bougie but I can't think of why that would be 2K since it sterilized and used again. I am confused. LOL. WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted June 29, 2009 might have to give them a call i think!!!!!! Let us not forget, hospitals are in competition with one another to get patients. You are the consumer, they are the merchant. Make them behave as such.

Afterall, you're keeping the staples, so why not the gun too!:tongue_smilie: 1 Skinnygirlfightingtogetout reacted to this
