I got my quote for the sleeve proceedure and there is a $2205.50 cost for Prosthetics!!! Is this bougie left in place? I was under the impression that there were no **prosthetics** well...not over $2000 worth? Can anyone shed some light for me please...

Many thanks

A bougie is just a tube they put down your throat during surgery and into your stomach. They kinda measure around it when they cut.

The only thing left in your body that wasn't there to begin with are staples.

I think you aren't even getting a kiss with this one. ;o))))

I think I'd ask for an explanation of that one.

NO kiss ... maybe at least some KY?

You should definitely ask for an explanation. I'm not familiar with you health care system but I'm sure you can check what other surgeons charge.

Do you think it could be the staples? The staples are verrrry expensive.

On 2nd thought that is doubtful. Hospitals usually charge 10x their cost and the staples are more expensive than $2K.

Maybe it is for the bougie?

What - she gets to keep it as a souvenir? If that's the case, I'd pass and save the $2K...

Sometimes they use an endoscope in place of a bougie but I can't think of why that would be 2K since it sterilized and used again. I am confused. LOL.

might have to give them a call i think!!!!!!

Let us not forget, hospitals are in competition with one another to get patients. You are the consumer, they are the merchant. Make them behave as such.

Glad you got an explanation and seems to me if you're paying $2K for the darn thing, you should have a right to keep it. Afterall, you're keeping the staples, so why not the gun too!:tongue_smilie:

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
