WasA,

You sound before like I am now. I can't wait to become the person you are! Just thinking about the WLS coming up has made me not desire fast food nearly as much as before I made the decision to have the sleeve. A few more weeks, and I will join the ranks of the Sleeved! I can't wait!!!

I will second that!!

I think they are doing a better job than they used to but you should check out some of the food labels for the "healthy" choices.

McDonalds salads are loaded with calories, fat, and sodium.

McDonalds Yogurt is loaded with suger (but it's good! <g>)

There is a sub place, I'm drawing a blank! It starts with a C. They have tuna salad, one serving is 1000 calories.

It's hard, restaurants are in the business to sell things that taste good and fat and/or sugar is what makes things taste good. One would think tuna or yogurt would be good choices but they really aren't.

It's hard, if you are in a rush and stop at a fast food joint it is VERY hard to make good choices.

Capriotti's?? I can imagine how everything they have is high calorie ... but man-o-man is it good.

I told Bob today -- just think, we'll be able to get a 6" sub at Subway and split it and still have some left over ... I figure our grocery bill and expense for eating out when we do will drastically decrease. (That's is once I quit buying anything I can think of to try and get my Protein in! -- HA!)

Your grocery bill will be cut dramatically.

Although, even sleeved I still don't like to cook.

We prefer to grill out as much as possible, especially this time of year when it is so hot here in Las Vegas. I think we'll proably grill up a lot of things, and then seal-a-meal them to use during the week ... it's nice after working a full day to come home and only have to reheat dinner, instead of starting from scratch.

Funnily enough I've had the same experience as Mac but with a band and presumably without the ghrelin cut.

I used to eat healthy anyway, I've always eaten plenty of fresh fruit and veg and I'm a very good cook, bit of a gourmet in fact. I'm feeding a family and I would never ever have let my kids eat the way I did. So the family diet was very healthy and actually has not had to change one single bit since I was banded. What we ate as a family was entirely appropriate - lean Protein, lots of vegetables, fruit and wholegrain carbs, low fat dairy.

I just used to eat way too much junk food on top of it - white carbs for me mainly. I liked my share of McDonalds, and the fish and chips etc (have never cared for pizza, KFC or pretend healthy food like Subway) but Cookies, cakes, rich coffees, muffins, donuts, I loaded up on that stuff during the day when the kids were at school.

Now I just plain dont like them. They disgust me. The stench in McDonalds makes me sick. Seeing people eat it is revolting. Seeing anybody unbanded eating is a bit revolting actually - they literally STUFF themselves - even my girlfriends at girls night. I just think whoa, slow down!!

My tastes definitely changed. I'm sure there's hormones behind it but I think its just that eventually habit does take over. It doesnt happen in six weeks but after four years with a band, I dont think I'd revert quickly to old ways thoug I'm sure I probably would slide a bit over time.

My band also made healthy choices a no brainer. I quickly lost my desire for all the sticky/gooey/globby stuff like bread, fries, Pasta because it was just too hard to eat without pain.

Then the rest of the unhealthy stuff... You know, when you have to chew chew chew, that unhealthy stuff is usually disgusting and tasteless after the first bite. The more natural foods taste good when you actually have to taste and chew them. Maybe that's why it was so much easier to make healthy choices with the band than without. Plus, I wasn't starving all the time. The band really helped control my hunger, and that made all the difference in the world in what I wanted and chose to eat.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
