Important Lesson Learned

Recommended Posts

Well, I learned an important lesson that I've heard discribed by many other bandsters last night.

I've been working nightshifts and they haven't been the best shifts......just lots of little problems that make the nights long and add to that I am tired. Wait....make that EXHAUSTED!!!!! recumbent.gif

So last night was no different. I've been planning all my meals, making sure I get my protien and last night I brought some chicken in gravy. Little bitty pieces of chicken in a nice sauce. Should be good for me and easy to eat, right?

Well, I decide I'm going to eat up at dispatch, get in there and start heating up my lunch, sit there and tell Kimmie what a rotten night it's been, grab my lunch out of the microwave and start shoveling....yes, shoveling....my food in because I'm not even thinking. awake.gifbummed.gifIt's how I've always eaten when I'm stressed out.

And then it hits.......the monster from Alien is trying to burst out of my chest, right under my sternum. censored.gif

Ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow, ow!!!!!!!!!:omg:

Oh, my lord, I didn't know that eating could be so incredibly painful!devious.gif

Kimmie kept asking me if I was alright and I kept telling her no, but it would pass.....at least I was hoping it would pass. Finally after about 10 min. the monster decided it couldn't get out and it settle down to a dull throb that really is still there now. I was just happy I didn't throw up because I felt like I could of. worried.gif But I don't throw up. It takes a WHOLE lot to make me throw up.:guess

I KNOW better than to eat that fast! I feel so stupid! unhappy.gif It's one of the BASICS of eating after becoming a bandster.

So I'm back to eating broth and protien drinks till my chest feels better. I'm sure I made it swell up with my stupidity. weird.gif

I guess you live and learn.:cry

Me too, I've actually vomited twice in the last 20+ years to be specific, but a PB is not the same as vomiting at all. Similar action, totally different outcome.

Vomiting means the contents of the stomach: food, acid, bile, whatever. PB does not. A PB should only include whatever got stuck, and whatever you put on top of it that couldn't get by, or maybe just slime (but that's getting into the technicals of lab-bandese, and there is no universal consensus on the words in that language!) PB should never include acid. Vomiting usually involves several "spasms", too, whereas normally when I PB I wretch once. I may have to wretch again later, but it's just one "Bleeehhh....", not "BLEH! BLEH! BLEH!" Also isn't nearly as unpleasant because there's no burning, and the whole acid factor again... it's just saliva & food.< /p>

I can keep myself from puking, for the most part. I can do nothing about a PB. When I have to PB I have to PB and there's nothing I can do to stop it short of dying, and even then my band would kick my esophasgus and make it push it up, just to spite me. :)

Sounds like you got stuck, and got lucky. :Banane20:

It's also interesting that people feel PBs so differently. I don't feel a thing in my chest, but it will make me wish I could pull my spine out.

Pretty graphic, Wheetsin. Thank you. I think it would be so helpful to newbies like me to know what some of these things are really like. Politically correct euphanisms just don't do it. I need reality. Kind of like Strawarts: EPGSHFLYADV: Excrutiatingly Painful Gagging Sliming Heaving Feels Like You're About to Die Vomitation (suggested replacement for PB)

I really want to know what I may be dealing with. :nervous

I'm the same. I do not vomit. I will do anything I can to avoid it. I'm actually not afraid of a PB so much but I just know that I'll suffer huge pain and it wont come up when it finally happens to me. I think over the years I've developed such an ability NOT to vomit when I actually should that I bet I wont be able to bring up the offending item either.

I found internet resources a little annoying in the beginning, because I needed the detail of what I was getting into, but I just couldn't find it. Here's my PB story.

Wheetsin, thanks for your PB story. Actually, I think I read it when I was researching, but it didn't stick. I think I'll remember it now. Now, it could happen to ME!!:) :Banane20:

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.

Lost my Pup last month and struggled really hard for that first month. Stopped tracking intake and slid into old habits here and there. Also quit working out. Can't walk in the neighborhood because of all of the memories we shared. Losing my Pup is the most heartbreaking thing I've ever been through. My Pup was my world 💔
Talked to my doc during my one year followup and they were not worried about my current status. They know, and I know, that I will get back on track.

I'm so sorry. I lost my pup (Mr. Bitters - a chocolate Pomeranian) 2 years ago and it still makes me tear up. He was my everything - my constant companion. I understand. Do the best you can to get back on track.
