Appeal ready - want to give me feedback?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Well thanks to the great help from the boards, I've got my appeal letter ready to ship off to BCBS. Anyone want to take a look? Offer me some advice? I've posted it here:

...and would love to get your in feedback.

Thanks,

Britt

I clicked on the link and the message is you're being investigated for TOS violation. I had to shut down my computer to get out. However, I DID read the letter and found it addresses all the points objectively and accurately. It's well written and should win you a review of the appeal. Good luck!

WHAT is TOS?

The TOS issue was resolved on a blogspot review. For new bloggers and new posts they do a scan to see if there are any words that trigger an alert for misuse by spammers and stuff. Everything was fine. Really sorry that it caused problems. I never blogged before.

Thanks to the help of people on various boards I made many edits and finally decided to just get it done and sent. So it's off in the mail as of this afternoon and now I'll just wait and wonder until I hear back from them. If I had to place a bet it would be that they'll agree to remove the band but refuse to pay for a revision to VSG by moving the low BMI determination to their denial of the VSG. But at least I'll feel like I did everything I could. My husband asked me last night what I'd do if money didn't matter and my gut feeling was that I'd choose Aceves. He's so highly thought of and has such great experience. I'd rather not have to pay for the surgery (I'll have to use the money I was saving for a kitchen remodel). But in the end I know it's worth it. I was so thrilled with the lap band when it was working. I already know how life changing being able to manage your weight and eating is.

I've updated the blogspot content to match what I finally submitted. That way if there's anything useful in what I put together it's available for others to cut and paste from.

Best of luck getting the surgery approved. I used the money I was saving for a vacation and borrowed the rest to have my surgery. I paid the money back and am saving again for a vacation but that has to wait until after I am recovered from knee replacement surgery. When I do go on that vacation, I'll look and feel good.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
