Jell-O Shooters a HIT!!

Recommended Posts

Okay - I finally found something to make Isopuke taste better -- I made Jell-O shooters. I had purchased the Raspberry Ice (or something like that) -- it was NASTY NASTY NASTY! So, when I was at the grocery today, I purchased some sugar free Jell-O. One of the flavors I bought was Raspberry. I boiled Water, used 1-1/2 C of water (instead of the 2 C called for) mixed it with the Jell-O, then added the bottle of Isopuke. Mixed it up and poured it into little quiche size pans with cupcake liners and put in fridge to set-up. THEY ARE WONDERFUL!! I bought the pans (foil) at Albertsons and they came with the liners - I think it was right around $4. I'll have to buy more liners, but the pans are reusable.

So the Jello-O is 0 carbs, 0 sugar and 1g Protein. 80 calories for the entire box (10 cals for 1/8 of box). The Isopuke has 40 gms of protein. It made 36 of the 'quiches' with about 1 C left over.

Now, I'm not quite sure how to figure out what each 'quiche' would be but I do know that they go down easy and taste good and I can see myself eating several throughout the day so I will at least be getting in more protein than I have been. Something is better than nothing at this point in my recovery, right?

I am going to try that, sounds like you came up with a winner

Plus the taste of the Jell-O is strong enough it covers up that powdery Protein after taste if that makes sense.

Great idea! I've never tried the isopuke from a powder. I have only tried the bottles. I really didn't think it was all that bad.

This was from a bottle. I bought 3 - one grape, one lemon tea, one ice raspberry. The grape was tolerable; however, I poured the tea down the drain and used the other with the raspberry Jello.

I didn't think I was all that picky; however, lots of things just taste down right nasty to me and that may be because of the surgery or anesthesia or both or it may just be that I'm pickier than I thought I was because I had more options to choose from.

I haven't been able to drink any of them just on their own. Too much of an aftertaste

You know what makes it better and not many more calories? Fat free coolwhip over the jello!

Oh, never thought of that - that would have been the perfect topping.

sf Jello has so many less calories than sf pudding.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
