hi everyone. I have my pre-admin check on the 6th feb with my operation date being the 3rd March down in Fife. I am excited but nervous as well. My main issue is a lot of the diet advice I have had so far involves shakes, I cant tolerate anything remotely along the lines of milk or flavoured milks, it just makes me vomit, (been like that since a kid, dont even like icecreams) so does anyone have any suggestions what I can take in place of those? My dietician appointment isnt until the 6th february as well so I really would like to get a jump start on getting things organised.

How did your appointment go willow? I text my daughter (she's had bypass surgery a year ago) and she suggested sugar free jelly and drink plain skinny milk. Dunno if that is any good to you?? Good luck and look forward to hearing from you

hi and thanks for asking.
I can't drink even plain milk, I know I am strange lol. She has given me really low carb diet sheets to follow for 2 weeks prior to the operation, so I start those on the 17th feb (I will copy some of that out later to let you see). Afterwards she has said she thinks there are drinks more juice based that I can have but she will find out for definite, I think I stumped her by not liking milks and shakes as most are told to take them.

Willow, I'm in the UK and you can get Isopure clear from Monster supplements online. Its a clear fruit-flavoured drink with 32g of Protein in it.

I bought 8 cases of the stuff, drank only half of it, up until I got onto week 4-6, when real food kicked in and I'm going to have to shift the remainder on ebay.

So, my advice and if you can't handle milk-based anything - is to go for that.

I found it invaluable for the first two weeks - even though it tastes like foot and arse!

if you have any questions, just shout :)

http://monstersupplements.com/store/p/5677/1/ - although I don't know why, but on my screen it doesn't allow you to add to basket.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Isopure-Protein-Isolate-Clear-Flavour/dp/B0089A657U/ref=sr_1_fkmr1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1391990069&sr=8-2-fkmr1&keywords=isopure+clear+buy+uk

This is amazon.co.uk - not a bad price, too. Half the price of what I paid originally with Monster supplements.

As for taste - they're not completely awful. I stomached them because I needed the 32g of Protein they provided me whilst I could only drink Clear liquids. Don't buy 8 cases like I did though!

In my humble opinion, the green one is better than the yellow and the yellow is much better than the red - but it is all personal choice.

Sadly, we only get the three varieties over here. In the states they have over 40 flavours or something! I'm sure the others taste much better - but we have to cope with what we can get and for what they deliver, they're ideal for us.

Best of luck :)

Thank you so very much for that, its a shame we do not get catered for, the same as the people in the states do.

Another option, if you like yoghurt? Is a product called 'Upbeat'. You can find it in Tescos next to all the yoplait/benecol/yakhult drinks.

Its a strawberry or mango flavoured Protein drink that seriously tastes like yoplait. It has 20g of Protein in a small bottle. Its amazing. They were my go-to thing for about 8 weeks. Bit pricey at between £1.50-£1.70 a bottle. But if you can get them on special, they're fabulous.

It really is like taking a yakhult and super tasty, too. No gammy protein aftertaste. :)

You are a star, I do like yoghurt so I will definitely get hold of some of them and the best bit is if its tescos I can buy as I need them.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
