New here and thankful

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I am new here. I think this is a great idea and I hope to meet many new friends. I am very grateful for my new life. Like a lot of us, I was overweight my whole adult life. It seems to run in my family. All my aunts on my mothers side are little round Italian women. I seem to take right after them. LOL. The only time I have been able to get the weight off was in the late 1990's when there was a local clinical trial for Meridian, thats about the same time as the Phen Fen diet pills/study. I lost 60 pounds in 6 months and looked great. But of course the medication was pulled from the market, a law suit ensured and needless to say all the weight came back and 20 lbs extra. Fast forward 12 years and my Veterans Affairs (I'm X Navy) discovered I had NASH (fatty liver) along with high B.P., hight cholesterol, diabetic, sleep apnea...I was just a mess and I knew something had to be done. So I started to look around and research and I happened onto O.H. and the rest is history. Here I am 7 months out, down from 220 to 160 and still going. and guess what! I am off my B.P. meds and my cholesterol is great! Hence why I am thankful.

Welcome to the forum!

I still have Meridia that I got in Mexico when I was trying anything and everything. Just ran across it a few weeks ago. I have no idea why I keep it, I should throw it away.

Congrats on the weight loss! Feels good to be in control, eh?

What did you do in the Navy?

I am always glad to see people who post over at that other board come over here and start posting.

I think this board and the people are fantastic. I don't know any of the people over there, but I find that site difficult to navigate.

Congratulations on your weight loss. It's nice to see some more people who aren't newly sleeved in case people like me have questions. I can't seem to get it through my head that I can't eat as much as I could with the band.

I find that site difficult to navigate.

And the software is very buggy.

Yep typo, Meridia not Meridian or merida.

Now I'm totally confused. I can't even remember what we were talking about. :lol0:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
