Any Arizona nurses sleeved out there? Thought it would be fun to have a group of nurses comparing notes and having a sleeved lunch together now and then!

Me!

You know, I was noticing today how many nurses there are on the forum. I was considering starting a new subsection for nurses. I wasn't sure if it would be a hit or not.

Amazing how many nurses are on this site. As a rule we are lousy patients, but we sure know how to do our research, it will be great to correspond with eachother about our experiences!

Any thoughts on why so many nurses have surgery? Better question, why do soooo many nurses need surgery? Job stress?

I was wondering the same thing. Maybe its because we take care of EVERYONE else except ourselves?? This could be a possibility. Maybe we are realizing that we MUST take care of ourselves first.

I know that my weight went to another level of nursing school! We went to class, we ate and studied all day & night until graduation! LOL

And as a nurse--there are so many presentations and companies that come to my job with Snacks, meals, etc. It is unreal! :001_rolleyes: Ive also heard that if you work the night shift, you tend to gain more weight. Maybe because you eat in order to stay up??? I work the day shift and its very busy but I guess its not enough. LOL

But....NOW it is OUR time to SHINE! We are reclaiming our lives and our health.

Let's get real here, ladies. Shall we? Compare stories.

Anyone else ever embarrassed to tears to waddle into a cardiac patient's room to tell them they need to lose 50# when we might have 100+ to lose? you *know* what they are thinking. I'm shocked nobody ever said anything to me about my own weight. :thumbup1:

I hated doing that.

I know exactly what you mean. I was reviewing a patient's discharge instructions on that yesterday. And I remember thinking "How can I tell him how to do this, when I have not?"

Its a real wake up call.

I used to take the approach of... look, I know how hard this is. I'm trying, too. That seemed to do the trick. I still hated doing it.

Well, since I have done pediatrics almost my entire career, this hasn't been an issue. But, when I see overweight kids in the hospital with hypertension crisis or diabetic complications or even suicide attempts, it makes me sooooo mad, and then I think, I am a role model, and look at me. Obesity is a serious problem and we have to start making changes somewhere.

It is very heartening and encouraging to see nurses posting on this site about your own experiences. As a future patient it is nice to know you are out there pulling for us.

Well....I'm from Arizona and I'm in the medical field. I'm a registered health information technician. Does that count?

Not in Arizona but I am an RN from Texas and I've noticed that several nurses and at least a couple of physicians have had the surgery and post on here! :D

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
