Hi, everyone! I just joined this forum. I am scheduled for my VSG with Dr. Aceves on July 7. Everything is in order and I am excited, nervous, scared, happy...I am just ready to begin the rest of my life! :thumbup1:

(Some of you may know me from OH as JSTN28) :wink1:

I too am thinking of having the surgery done by Dr Aceves. What are his prices? How will you continue followup care in the US? I have insurance , but I'm afraid that if I self pay, especially in Mexico, complications won't be covered.:thumbup1:

Congrats! You will LOVE LOVE LOVE being sleeved. Having control of your weight is a feeling better than anything.

Good job for taking control and doing something about the problem we all share.

Complications won't be covered if you have it done in the US either. :wink1:/

That's another good reason for going to Mexico, the better doctors cover their own complications.

How do they cover their own complications if you are back in the United States? That is one concern I have. Wish I lived closer to be able to get back to the surgeon if necessary.

Most complications happen right away and that's why when you travel for surgery, most places have to stay for a few days (at least) afterwards. So you'd still be in MX.

In terms of complications, sometimes insurance will cover them and sometimes they won't. It depends on so many factors. But having surgery in Mexico is not one of them. So you will be as covered as you would be if you had your surgery in the US.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
