attitudefree 2 Posted June 10, 2009 I am considering the sleeve- a friend told me I could never have any alcholol after the sleeve. Is that true- no more wine....at all?
*Lib* 5 Posted June 10, 2009 I have had wine, but I believe that it makes you silly quickly, and lots less than normal needed to do that! I avoid carbonated mixers with anything.

Elisabethsew 50 Posted June 10, 2009 Alcohol is fattening but i don't know of any reason why you can't have a glass of wine.
WASaBubbleButt 41 Posted June 10, 2009 I am considering the sleeve- a friend told me I could never have any alcholol after the sleeve. Is that true- no more wine....at all? Nahhh, not true. I will tell you that it can kill weight loss. Just one glass can do it and cause a stop in weight loss for days.

MacMadame 81 Posted June 11, 2009 When you have a sleeve, you have a normal stomach only smaller. So there really isn't anything you can't eat as long as it agrees with you. I do find that the alcohol affects me faster and then I lose the buzz faster. I don't enjoy drinking it post-op so I tend not to. But I could if I wanted to. Some programs have long lists of foods/drinks you can and can't have at various points or forever. Except for when you are first healing and need to be on liquids and then softs, these restrictions are not based on clinical data and there isn't any scientific reason for them. This would include popcorn, caffeine, gum, drinking through straws, raw veggies, alcohol and a host of others I've seen people be told they can't have. Then we get to the controversal issue of carbonation. Most programs say not to have it and it will stretch the sleeve (or pouch, if you have RnY). That just seems unlikely to me. It seems like you'd burp or fart before your stomach would stretch out. But carbonation makes most people with small stomachs uncomfortable and soda is bad for you in so many ways and the only pther carbonated beverage I like is sparkling cider, so it's not really an issue for me. :001_tt2:
nelady 10 Posted June 16, 2009 I can chime in on ths discussion. I went on a cruise in May and drank alcohol just about everyday, usually with dinner or at the pool. I don't drink wine, so usually had one of those fruity drinks or my standard amaretto & 7-up. Thr carbonation in the mxer was a bit uncomfortable sometimes, but a burp usually took care of that. I did feel the liquor a bit sooner than before the VSG, but not too much. It probably affects people differently. Other than on the cruise, I am lucky if I have 2-3 drinks a month. And as for the weight gain - I actually lost 2 pounds while on the cruise!
