Great Surgeon in Texas

Recommended Posts

I found a great group in Houston, Texas. UT Physicians rock! They do all their sleeve procedures at Memorial Hermann in the Texas Medical Center which is a Bariatric Center of Excellence.:cool0:

Would you mind giving us more details? The more details on surgeons the better.

You wrote that is is a COE, great!

What is the cost for self payers out there?

What does the cost include?

What kind of aftercare program do they have?

How many nights in the hospital are included?

How many sleeves have they done?

How many gastric bypass have they done? (staple line experience)

How many and what kind of leak tests do they do?

Just anything you think someone in TX might want to know. I'm especially interested in finding sleeve surgeons in TX as that seems to be a frustrating place for sleeves so the more info you could provide the better! I know they have a lot of band/bypass surgeons but it's great to hear of a sleeve surgeon.

Thanks!

Brad Snyder he is with UT Physicians. I hear his partner is really good ,as well,- Eric Wilson. This is who I was originally referred to by a very experienced OR nurse, but he was not available for an appointment. I went to Snyder instead and have been very satisfied with my results. You can find out more at www.utmist.com. I had my surgery on Jan 27th starting @ 234#. My current weight is 184 and I have never felt better.

I don't know what the cost would be for a self payer. My insurance actually covered the sleeve. I had an out of pocket expense of about $2,ooo. Dr. Snyder told me he had only done about 30 sleeves, but he had done hundreds of gastric bypass procedures. He and his partner have had only one fatality and it was from post-op pulmonary embolism. I don't know if the study is still in progress, but they are also conducting a trial for the TOGA procedure.

One day post op you get a swallow test first thing in the morning. My physician personally wheeled me down to x-ray, because he wanted to see the study in person in case there were any issues.

I spent 2 nights in the hospital. I was ready to return to work (as a nurse) in one week, but took a full 2 weeks anyway (just because I deserved it).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
