Ok so here's my story.

My name is Tiffany. I'm a 37 yr old mother of 3. I have been thinking about having wls for a long time. I finally get up enough courage to actually take the step and its been one wall after another. I have a variety of co-morbidities and other health issues and as a result of these I have only one surgical option and that is that is the VSG. I was happy becasue i feel that this is the safest procedure for me and it will benefit me the most. Well, first my insurance company doesn't want to cover it, big surprise...right? :sneaky2:Then my Drs office has a malfunction with the dictation machine and my pr approval hasn't even been submitted yet. 6 weeks later they finally have redone the dictation so hopefully this week things will get started. My surgeon seems to think that we can win over the ins company but it will take time. I am so frustrated with this whole thing. I refuse to give up but does it have to be SO difficult?:crying:

Thanks for listening to me.:svengo:

Hugs, Tiff

Welcome, Tiff!

Insurance companies just don't "get it" and make you jump through hoops to get approval. I had my band paid for by insurance and was a self pay for the VSG in Mexico. Your MD needs to stress all the things that are wrong with you in the hopes of getting approval. Keep us posted on your progress.

Good luck! I really hate insurance companies!!!! I have 5 adopted kids with down syndrome and other special issues and two "tpical" and one preemie..... I swear I spend an hour to three each week dealing with them about something!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope your doctor has better luck than mine....most do fight and do it well, but a lot of policies are like mine......ALL EXCLUDED. The paid for my removal....all except the surgeon fees!!!! He is still arguing with them...... and we are appealing for the third time!

I am paniced they will come back and make me pay all the bills so I guess I will likely give up and pay the cash price his OM set up for me! (same that ins would have paid)

BU GOOD LUCK and listen and try what your doctor suggests....you chose him for a reason.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
