Speaking from the sleeve experience as I am sleeved now and have been for over a year now, I was 389 at surgery, 1 year later I am 197 or a little less,

Congrats to you!

There is a gland in your stomach called Grehllin or however it is spelled that sends a signal to your brain telling you when your hungary and also slowing your metabolism.

Ghrelin is a hormone and when this hormone is removed it does create a chain of hormonal changes throughout the GI system. Ain't it grand? ;o)

(word of advise to anyone.. When they tell you to go to the hotel and wash your wounds I wouldnt do that, Take some Neosporin spray, alcohol wipes and completely cover your wounds while in the shower anywhere in Mexico. I look at it like this, If it is not safe enough to drink it isnt safe at all)

Nah, not necessary. The problem with the Water in Mexico is not as you think, it's a matter of the Water getting IN the GI system and that's not a problem with showering and washing your hands. People NEED to wash their hands the old fashioned way with soap and water. They NEED to shower and do as the doctor tells them. Not sure about other doctors but Dr. Aceves tells them to use antibacterial soap, don't scrub, gently wash the incisions over the tape and let the shower head gently rinse the soap off.

I think it's really important for people to follow the doctors instructions and not put anything on the incisions such as neosporin. Dr. Aceves specifically requests people NOT do that. No ointments, no topical anything. Just plain soap and water. Other doctors may have differing opinions.

If your theory was correct we'd be having a lot of infected peers coming home from Mexico, we don't.

You can wait till you are back in the states to wash them hehe.

No, they can't. Basic infection control is washing your hands.

Congrats on your fantastic weight loss! You are doing a great job!

I am 13 months out from VSG and am so happy I had this surgery done. Your body will accomodate whatever exercise you do(after six weeks), you may just need to eat a little more. Good luck, you will love your sleeve!!:thumbup1:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
