I can't remember if I said this earlier... I originally only planned to lose 90 lb. I couldn't imagine losing 100. I ended up losing 110!

Hi, I'm new to the boards! I'm needing to lose over 50kilos which is over a 100 pounds. I'm not yet sleeved - 1 week from tomorrow! With the trepidation has come a host of other fearsome thoughts about my time after surgery and my life as it evolves. It's really daunting to think I have to lose more than half of my body weight. And then there's the skin thing - I'm only 24 so I'm hoping that's on my side but I've been big my whole life and I have previously lost weight (60+pounds) before and put it back on so I'm really worried that my skin just no longer has that give in it. My ultimate fear though? That is - losing all the weight and still feeling the same - like tired and grumpy, inactive, have big dark circles around my eyes, continuing PCOS symptoms, and nutritional deficiencies. I want to lose weight so that I can feel alive again, jump and move around a be active and connect with my body again. I want to feel light - it was the most awesome feeling in the world when I was thinner. So I'm crossing my fingers and my toes that I will be able to eat everything my body will need and not feel like I'm constantly on a VLC diet even though I can get full. :biggrin0:

Don't worry... if you lose your weight, you get your life back. It may not be perfect -- being thin doesn't solve every problem we have -- but it's still so much better than before.

I became an athlete and I eat plenty of food and don't have any trouble getting everything I need and there are plenty more like me out there...

Welcome to the board. I'm excited for you. You will indeed do the things you are dreaming of following surgery. I found the diet very restrictive in the beginning, but I expected that during the healing process. As time goes on you feel better every day and what you can eat increases in variety. There's really no "restriction" on any food, but common sense following surgery will tell you to lose the weight you want to avoid the simple carbs. I am almost 3 months out. My husband and I went out to lunch today and enjoyed Soup and salad. I did not have salad, or breadsticks, but loved the rich soup. I had a great time. I am looking forward to salad again, but right now happy to eat "normal" food. You'll find it is not near as foreboding as you thought because you won't be as hungry as before. Your whole body adjusts to the change and the best thing....you're enjoying life again. Blessings to you. Mary

While I have great respect for people who decide to have weight loss surgery to lose 50 or so pounds, I have a hard time relating to them. My highest was 440 pounds and I began the VSG journey at 285 pounds. I'm looking at a 150 pound loss and would love to communicate with others in my category.

Hi! I've been noticing you had/have a lot to lose too. . .I have to lose 160lbs. Right now (i'm not sleeved yet) I weight 330 lbs give or take a pound or 3. . .depends on the swelling. . . I'm 6'0 tall and have very, very large bone frame. . .even my doctor is amazed at my frame. . . hehehe. . . I'd be more than happy to communicate with you during our journey!

Hi Thin - Elizabethsew doesn't post here anymore, she has her own personal reasons, so you won't be getting a response to your post. However, there are lots of other sleeves who have more than 100 lbs. to lose that I am sure will be more than thrilled to communicate with you.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
