While I have great respect for people who decide to have weight loss surgery to lose 50 or so pounds, I have a hard time relating to them. My highest was 440 pounds and I began the VSG journey at 285 pounds. I'm looking at a 150 pound loss and would love to communicate with others in my category.

I had VSG on February 9, 2010 - and have 100 pounds to lose. I have lost 80 pounds so far and am feeling great. If you have any questions, please email me. I have never felt better in my life - Good Luck

I am 6 weeks out and I'm discouraged--I'm just not losing even though I'm following the rules. I thought this was supposed to be "the honeymoon period" where we lost weight easily! I've only lost 21 lbs since surgery--that's six weeks! 150 lbs or more to go (the nutritionist arbitrarily set my goal at the very top of the normal range for my ht and wt). This week the scale stays the same, or goes up a pound (292.0to 293.6)

I feel like this isn't working.

Don't get discouraged - I have lost right at 80 pounds since 2/9/10 - I believe that in the first 6 weeks I lost around 28 pounds. It will come off. Just stay strong. GOOD LUCK

Hey look at it this way, at least your not gaining! When before surgery were you able to lose the amount you've lost in such a quick time? Don't be discouraged, rome wasn't built in one day either! You didn't gain all your weight in one day, and you sure as heck won't lose it in one day either! Good luck!

Hi.

I was sleeved on 12/18. I am down almost 30 pounds with another 100 to go. I was scared that I wouldn't lose and now I am! Very excited about all of the weight loss and hopeful for the future. My Doc says that it is rational to expect another 100 pounds. I am a bit worried about what I will look like after that. Will I have huge flaps of saggy skin? I have had people say that I will and I guess it doesn't really matter too much, health is the reason to lose the weight after all, but I am just like everyone else and would like to look GOOD. Has anyone hit their goal of a 100+ and is willing to share? I am exercising. Are there better exercises to help firm up? I am also 39 so I don't expect the body of a teenager.

Anyone have any input?

Thanks,

Lost

Hi there, well I've lost 145 lbs so far and have a bit left, but of course after that "little bit" it becomes personal and i'll want to lose just a bit more. . . I am 49 years old and was sleeve last december 29th 2009. .. I have some loose skin, but not much, many my apron is flapping in the breeze, but the plastic surgeon told me to loose all my weight then maintain for another 6 - 8 months if the skin is still in excess then he'll do surgery, but most times, he says, the skin shrinks back significantly so I may not even need surgery. . how exciting is that . . . exercise! did you mention exercise! Gosh I hate that word. .. it's the worst word ever to me. . .but i walk on the treadmill about 45 minutes 3x per week on interval hills. . . it's a good work out. . . but boy oh boy do i hate it!

Hi! I am currently 248 at 5' 1/2" tall. I have started the 6 month qualification with my PCP, and will be getting my first consultation with the surgeon. I can hardly wait the 6 months! I am ready to do it in 2 weeks! I love this forum and have learned a LOT more than I ever wanted to know. But that is good because every scrap of knowledge I get from you ladies first hand will get me prepared and ready to do it to the max. I will be armed with knowledge that will help me post op and I can always come here and ask you guys. You're the best! I love you all!

Hi there. I started in all the preparation phase (visiting Dr.'s, supervised diet, nutritionist, support groups, etc. etc.) after the new year. I hope to have surgery in late May, early June. My PCP and DH are very supportive. I originally was thinking of the band, but my surgeon's office said that they have much better success with the sleeve for "older" folks [which is how I found out I'm considered old, at 52! LOL!] I'm a 5'6" woman and am currently around 245. My goal weight is 135. During the month that I've been on the nutritionist supervised diet I actually gained 4#! The nutritionist told me not to worry about it. Like some others, I wonder "Can this really work? Can I really stop eating like a horse and be satisfied with (what seem to me now, pre-surgery) as teeny tiny meals? Will the removing the ghrelen secreting section of my stomach stop me (finally) from being a sweet fiend that I've been virtually my whole life?" I'm looking for support here, folks!

When I went to my doctor the first time, inquiring about surgery, I was 247 pounds. By the time I had surgery I was 228. Now, 3 weeks after surgery I'm 202 pounds. One of the reasons that I joined this forum and not the support groups at my doctor's office is because the people said to me that I didn't need to have surgery, I didn't have that much weight to lose. Just because I didn't have over 200 pounds to lose didn't mean that I didn't feel like my weight was out of control. I felt as ashamed and like I was spiraling just like everyone else.

I'm so glad I found this forum. Everyone is so supportive. Right now, I'm at my 3 week stall, and not getting enough calories. I'm not going to let that get me down. I'm going to figure this thing out. I have a life time of making this tool work for me and I'm going to take it one day at a time, one pound at a time.

103.6 here, seems like impossible goal, but if someone had of told me 22lbs in 10 days a couple of weeks I would of laughed at them, so why not :thumbup1: go for the gold

I'm totoally with you. I want to lose 100 lbs in 4 months. Was just sleeved two days ago. Others have done it. Why can't I. I just need to find out how they did it. Anyone?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
