I'm on my first ten days. I did not like any of the powdered Protein supplements that you would add to the broth like powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. So for the first ten days I'm basically going without the required protein. That's not making me happy. I don't suppose it is going to kill me until I can get to the point where I can drink my Protein shakes.

Did anybody find something that wasn't just awful for the first ten days?

I bought something called IDS liquid Protien...I have no idea how it tastes, I have not got it yet, but the reviews were good. They said it tastes like liquid Jello. But I figure even if it tastes nasty, it is kinda like a shot, just 3 oz, and it has 42g of Protein.< /p>

BTW if anyone has tried these let me know, I ordered quite a few so it would be nice to know what people thought of them!

iused the clear Isopure RTD and the powder ( fruit drink flavors) for the clear on my lap band. It is my plan to use them this time as well.

They have other flavors that I could imagine mixing with milk..... but not clear or Water made me want to vomit!

I got mine at a GNC ...... i bought a lot of one that were going to expire in a month (1/3 price) and they will be gone by then so who cared

It tasted a lot like gator aide or such.....

the zero carb ones are just that 40 g Protein and zero carb 160 cal

i liked the grape, apple melon, rasperry and orange pineable best..... there are other flavors.

I'm on my first ten days. I did not like any of the powdered Protein supplements that you would add to the broth like unjury. So for the first ten days I'm basically going without the required Protein. That's not making me happy. I don't suppose it is going to kill me until I can get to the point where I can drink my protein shakes.

This is what Nina suggested to me:

broth, chicken, Beef, Vegetable, or they have new products out (new to me) that are Chinese Soup broths in a carton that you simply heat. It would give you a bit of variety.

Popsicles that are Water based, sugar free, and a variety of flavors.

Ramen Noodles. While the noodles are not acceptable during the clear phase of the post op diet there is a packet of dry broth mix that many seem to like, it has a bit more kick than regular broth, I am told.

Propel Water, you can purchase this as bottled water or you can purchase individual packets of this product and put it in water and mix. The reason this product is good is because many are used to a high carbohydrate diet and when your body is used to many carbs, especially white carbs such as flour, Pasta, rice, potatoes, sugar; your pancreas tends to put out a bit too much insulin because of the carb load. When you remove carbs from your diet it can potentially be a drastic change and your pancreas is still putting out a bit too much insulin during the post op diet. This can cause low blood sugar, your stomach might feel nauseated, you might begin to perspire, feel like you are trembling. This does not happen to everyone but it does seem to happen more to older folks or those used to very high white carb diets. Propel water has a very small amount of sugar in it. Just enough to bring your blood sugar up but not enough to cause large blood sugar spikes.

Power Aid Zero, it is a new product that is low carb but it has some electrolytes that are beneficial during the post op stage.

Water, you need to get about 64oz of fluids in daily. Your broth and Popsicles count toward your 64oz of fluids daily. The key is to sip, sip, sip all day long. The first few days you may find that you cannot get your full 64oz of fluids in, try as hard as you can. You do not want to become dehydrated. If you enjoy tap water that is fine, if you don't then perhaps try bottled water and see if that goes down.

Crystal Lite, sugar free Hawaiian Punch, pretty much any sugar free water flavorings are fine during the post op diet.

Protein products, during days 1-5 you'll need a clear protein product such as Isopure clear bottled protein liquid or Unjury. You can find Isopure at General Nutrition Stores or a variety of Health food stores. Unjury must be ordered on line in advance of your surgery, www.unjury.com. They have an unflavored product that is nice because when you are done with clears it is versatile and you can add it to Jello, cooking, smoothies, etc. Please note, this is a whey protein product. All whey protein products have one issue in common and that is that they don't heat easily. If you add any whey protein product to a hot liquid it will clump. The key is to add it to a cold liquid and heat slowly, then it will not turn into lumps.

A good source of protein products after the clear liquid phase (you can use these with water instead of milk starting day #5, and with milk starting day #11) can be purchased reasonably at:

www.netrition.com

Some excellent products are:

Matrix 5.0 by Syntrax http://www25.netrition.com/syntrax_matrix_page.html

The more popular flavors are chocolate and Cookies & Cream.

You can spice up the chocolate with Da Vinci Sugar Free Syrups:

http://www25.netrition.com/cgi/prices.cgi?manu_id=121

Another very popular protein product if you like Chocolate and Peanut Butter is Whey Gourmet, Choco/Peanut butter:

http://www25.netrition.com/pvl_whey_gourmet.html

I suggest the above because you'll need to consume about 60-80gms of protein after surgery. During the post op diet this can be difficult to do. Adding protein supplements can make this much easier.

I found the Special K water at Target (my favorite store) on clearance and bought 4-4 packs -- I bought the propel individual packets - the strawberry-kiwi is delicious -- of course they are almosts gone because my DF really likes them

Hope this helps.

Let me know how you like them. I haven't really purchased much of anything because everyone says your tastes change so much after surgery. I have a GNC right down the street, so figure I'll stop in there before I go back to work and sample some of their products and get the one(s) I like the best.

I got a little protein (5 g) from drinking the Kelloggs Lemon Protein Water. Like you, I could not stand the taste of any of the Protein drinks. I called and was allowed to use a soy drink (Soy Slender - health isle of grocery store) that tasted good... no awful taste. It had 8 g of protein, a few carbs and Fiber. Call and ask if you can use it. I started it on day 5 post-op.

Liquid Jello? sounds do-able. Let us know how they are. I think I could handle 3 oz., even if theyre not great.

I will!! Hopefully I will get them before I go down, that way I can start taking them right away, if not they should be here by the time I get back. I ordered a few other things that had like 20g of Protein, but I am really hoping I like the IDS.

I used them when I had my LapBand until I was able to consume enough Protein from food sources.

They do not taste anything like Jello in my opinion. They are extremely sweettart tasting like the little candies Sweettart, or even more like the Sour Smarties. I had to dilute one of the shots into a Powerade Zero/Gatorade G2 for the first couple of weeks. They are thick consistency wise, so shooting them like a "shot" isn't really possible for me. They have the consistency a little thinner than Maple Syrup.

I will use them again this time around for the revision to VSG beause they are convenient and I can not stomach any of the protein powders. I went through 15 different brands with my lapband. I just can't stand the way any of them taste.

If you can tolerate it, I put my Protein Shots in the refrigerator veggie/fruit bin before drinking them. I liked them frozen as well. Kind of a slushie consistency once they were semi-frozen. The shots being cold made them more tolerable to drink. I am going with the 26g shots this time because my nut told me that I wouldn't really be absorbing the total 42g.

The fruit Punch, and Blue Raspberry are the only flavors I can tolerate. The Orange and Grape Flavor tasted so disgusting.

I've tried a couple different brands and the IDS and the New Whey Protein Shots at GNC are my favorites.

Sweet tarts are one of my favs so I think I can handle that! Freezing them is a great idea! Thanks!!! Now for the flavors...crap!!! I read that grape and blue raspberry were the best and orange was okay, so I ordered those 3 and none of the fruitpunch! I ordered quite a few too lol. Oh well! I figure even if I can't absorb the whole 42g whatever I do absorb will be good and the shots were about the same and these had better ratings. I am also going to GNC soon to look for things. Thanks for letting me know about your experience with it!

I agree that I'll probably switch back to the 42g because the GNC here on our base doesn't carry the 26g varieties. I picked up some of the 26g IDS brand tonight at Wal-Mart. They are 3oz shots either way 42g or 26g, so I figure I might as well get the 42g.

I really like the Kellogg's Special K Protein Waters. They have only 5g of Protein, but I figure 5g is better than zero in plain Water. I love the Iced Tea Flavor, the pink lemonade is okay, and I hated the kiwi strawberry. I buy the powder packet mix and mix them in a bottle of Water.< /p>

Hey Tiff - where in Wal-Mart do you find them? How are they packaged? I'll have to check it out ... I bought the pink lemonade and kiwi strawberry waters ... hopefully I'll like them both -- if not, am sure Bob will drink them .. and I got them on clearance at Target, so am not out too much.

I have a hard time getting the Special K waters simply because you get so little Protein, yet you get quite a bit of sugar...at least with the labels that I read. I probably would buy them however if I was not able to get the Protein anywhere else, having never been through this before I am not sure what I will be able to do after, all of you that are converting from lap band will have a better idea.

As for getting them at Walmart...well that sucks! I wish I had known I could just buy them there, I ordered them online from Bariatric Choice. I may have to go to Walmart if they don't get here in time for me to leave. How much were they there? I think I paid $2.99 a shot, Walmart is probably much cheaper!

The bottle is 50 calories and that saved me when I was working a 13 hour shift on Clear Liquids. Once I went to a soft diet, I no longer needed it.

Hmm...I guess that I read wrong, I looked it up online. 50 calories does not seem to much for the first 10-20 days we won't be getting many else. Thanks for setting me straight!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
