End of my Lap Band Rope

Recommended Posts

Hi Everybody, I need your help in obtaining the name and contact information for the receivership company that is handling the now bankrupt CIBO clinic. What started out as a happy change of life journey turned into a nightmare that is never ending. I believed in what CIBO clinic and Dr Hong were selling, to me it was to be a life changing experience, a chance to be normal so I was willing participant and shelled out thousands of dollars only to be drowning in the end looking for that life line. I did initially lose weight but since about April 2013, I started to have major issues with my lap band, I could feel it tighten, I was having difficulty eating and drinking, frustration and embarrassment took over. This was also about the same time that CIBO went bankrupt and their empty promises of continued support from them as well as Dr Hong proved to be just that empty. I have contacted CIBO and Dr Hong regarding my ongoing issues but neither will deal with it. Reluctantly Dr Hong saw me in May 2013, but denied that there were issues with the band, instead he discovered I had a umbilical hernia which I had removed in June 2013, but here it is October and I am still having lap band issues, still have extreme difficulty eating and drinking. My general surgeon is the most wonderful, caring individual and is trying very hard to help me but he is the first to admit he knows nothing about the specialized lap band surgery even though some of the government personnel I have contacted advise me to go to my local hospital or GP. Each time Dr Hong is contacted regarding my issues, he defers it as something else and avoids me like the plague. I have been in and out of the emergency room several times in the last 6 mths to no avail, they are all stumped nobody has a clue as to how the lap band works. It is very frustrating for me and even more so when the very ones say they are there for us abandon us in our time of need. I have to be my own advocate at this point as there is strong possibility I will need the band removed which distresses me greatly but I am being left with no choices and I need to obtain my medical records from whomever took receivership of the CIBO clinic. If anybody out there knows who I can contact for these records please let me know thank you

Hi Missy, thank you for posting the link, I did see that when CIBO first declared bankruptcy, the problem is like thousands of others I paid $18000 plus for the lap band surgery and long term maintenance and we all know how that went. Unfortunately I don't have anymore money that I can spend on the lap band maintenance or otherwise. If I understand correctly Slim Band wants $1000 plus to take over where CIBO failed. I am not saying they should do it for nothing, I am just frustrated that my $18000 is down the drain and I as well as thousands of others are left to our own devices and seems like we keep on paying and I for one cannot afford it. thank you

Oh I don't blame you, I would be FURIOUS to pay that kind of money and get nothing for it.

I personally think all of CIBO's former patients should band together and sue them in a class action lawsuit. See if maybe you can recoup some money that way.

Best wishes, I truly hope you find the help you need without spending a fortune.

Have you tried calling different ER's to remove Fluid. I am sure the hospital where you had it put in would have a doctor in the ER that could remove fluid if you have any in your band. I would also find a lawyer. To me that is medical malpractice which is why he is bankrupt.

Hi Cheryl 12586, I have been in and out of the ER in the last 6 months, the major problem is unless they are a baratric specialist, the general medical community does not know a lot about the lap band and are very reluctant to touch it, that is why I am still struggling with issues after 6 mths. The surgeon that took out my umbilicia hernia was going to try and remove some Fluid but he did not know enough about the port and how much fluid was in etc as I don't have my medical records from CIBO. The company is in receivership and from what I understand there are more creditors ahead of us and doesn't seem like anybody I contacted really cares. Unfortunately it is a choice I made in life that I am suffering the consequences of. thank you

All medical records went here...and for a fee you can either have them on a DVD or download them from their website http://docudavit.com/ the email I have is Keishi Martinez <keishi@docudavit.com>

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
