I originally started and completed all of my pre op requirements at Bellevue Hospital and they require you to see a "family planning" specialist' date=' which means you have to go on birth-control prior to surgery to ensure you do not get pregnant right after lap-band. I was pretty PISSED because I have this stupid pride in the fact that hubby and I have NEVER used any birth control method besides pulling out. I opted for a IUD because it's non-hormonal and I don't have to do anything for it to work. Now I'm kinda HAPPY it's there because after losing nearly 40lbs, I'm the one who usually initiates ;) Hubby doesn't know it's there so we are still pulling out. He doesn't know not because I WANT to keep it a secret, it's because the prankster in me wants to one day have an "accident" and keep him guessing (and worried) for a few weeks. But I REALLY want to tell him already so we don't always have to.... you know.... Pull out.[/quote']

I had an IUD and 2 months later I was pregnant.

My son is 38 1/2 years old. Talk to your husband. Pulling out isn't birth control because sometimes sperm leaks out. Good luck

It's not, it's Russian roulette, but he has perfected the craft for 10 years now; however, now you're scaring me with your 38 year old son. Yikes!! Maybe we should continue to pull out even when I tell him. Thanks for that INFO!

Let's look at the list of BC i had tried. Started after the birth of my first son at the tinder age of 16. First it was the Pill, ortho novum 1/50 (these worked great, but back in the 80ies they got pulled), so then the 1/35 made me either sick or have BTB. Plus i would forget to take them...So we went to the foam.. nasty and messy..., moved on to the diaphragm severe infections... back to the pill.. 7/7/7, not good sick and still would forget to take them... Got Divorced... :D :D So when i has sex.. used condoms. Got remarried... Used the PULL out method... BAM here comes Jason. After Jason, we tried the pill again... nope, so we did the Shot... worst one ever... gained 50lbs in 3 months. Got off that... In went the IUD... That stayed for about two years when i started with severe cramping and bleeding. Went to doc, IUD had either fallin or was placed wrong... it was down into my uterus coming out the cervix Got that removed.....along with a DNC. Started the BEST BIRTH CONTROL EVER.... the nuva Ring. Who ever invented this is a freaking genius.... Stayed with that for years till i had my Hysterectomy.

So if there is a birth control out there i have probably tried it.... hehehe. By far the best was the Nuva Ring. Insert.... leave for 3 weeks, take out... throw away. Week later, put in new one. Now your hubby will fill this, but it is ok to remove during sex. you just have to remember to replace right after you are finished. So you can keep this a secret too if you wanted.

Good luck darling

I went apeshit on the IUD...I already have emotional and anxiety problems and it was so bad I actually took a swing at my husband who is NOTHING but loving and supportive because he stepped into an argument between me and my mother. IUD came out the following week and he went in for a vasectomy instead.

You are kinky, girl. I love it. =)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
