I'm new to his so if this question has been asked, i apologize. I had my lapband & plication surgery 4 days ago and I've followed the suggested liquid/protein requirements carefully. Why am I having severe heartburn? Has this happened to anyone else?

I didn't get HB right after surgery, but I did after one of my fills. I've had 2 fills since then with no HB. It's the strangest thing. I took Zantac and it worked pretty well. I've heard some people say they actually started getting HB after the band and are on a daily prilosec regime (and the doctor is ok with that). Give it time and it might go away.

My doctor gave me a prescription for liquid Zantac and had to take it for 30 days. Maybe call your doctor and ask. It tastes very bad, so you have to put it into a drink.

Feel better.

My doctor gave me prescription Pepcid to take twice a day, for two weeks post-op. Even so, I did have a bout with terrible heartburn, but it only lasted a couple of days. It freaked me out so bad, that I went in to see him.

As you're healing, there will be different feelings that do not feel right. It doesn't necessarily mean that anything is wrong, but given the major assault to your body, and the healing process, it takes a long time for things to settle down. It's always best to run these things by your doctor....or his nurse, as they are the best source to decide if it's something more serious in nature.

I hope you feel better soon..... I had my band with plication surgery on 3/25, and I'm SO happy with it!

Hope you feel better. Unrelated to a band, etc., my husband had heartburn issues and we were advised to put blocks of wood (1-2 inches high) under the head of the bed for a bit of an angle -- apparently laying flat was an issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
