Eating too much too soon??

Recommended Posts

Started mushies yesterday and am finding I can eat 1/2 to 3/4 cup without a problem. I have an 11 cc band but have nothing in it. Is it unusual to be able to eat this much 7 days post op and not feel and restriction? First 3-4 days I could only eat a couple tablespoons of liquids.< /p>

My doc said no more than 1/4 cup food at a time. I'm not as far along as you, but I'm guessing that just because you can doesn't mean you should. Sounds like you will need a fill for sure! Good luck.

Getting a fill the 16th. I am hungry every 2 hours if I eat less then 1/2 cup. Guess I will just suck it up :). Don't want to dilate my pouch

It's very normal. It's also important to remember the band isn't meant to physically stop you from eating anyway. It's job isn't to force you to stick to band sized portions- that is our job. The band is there to control your hunger.

Here's some great info: http://drsimpson.net/fills/Lap-band-eating/lap-band-not-restriction/lap-band-and-restriction.html

Best wishes

Thanks mis. I am beating myself up for being hungry! I am so glad I only have 10 days to wait for a fill!!! I feel like such a jerk for not being more in control

A half cup is about right. You will work up to a full cup eventually then have to train your mind (and mouth) to stop there!

I think you're very fortunate that you are on mushies. Still can't believe they let you start 7 days post. I wish I was! What's on your mushy list of things to eat!

I was very suprised too and asked the nurse like a dozen times if she was sure it was ok. Although I have been taking it pretty slow. Thicker yogurts, mashed potatoes, the ground up rib :), for dinner I had a small piece of cornbread that I made mushy with white chicken chili blended and thinned to a broth consistency. The dietician said 1 week to 10 days full liquids and then onto soft foods. My surgeon and his RN said full liquids the first 3 days then move into thicker and thicker foods and then mushies at day 7-14 and I will get a fill day 18. Then after the three days of liquids and softs I will transition to normal food.< /p>

Thanks. I seem to be tolerating it well. No nausea or throwing up. Got a little too full last night and was uncomfortable but stopped and stood up and walked around.

I figured mushies were to let our stomachs heal after being messed with much like liquids were meant to give it time to heal.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
