Am i doing this correctly ?!?

Recommended Posts

I had my surgery on 23/08 and have lost 15 kilos ( 33 pounds ) since then.

I was given a small fill at the time of surgery and 2 weeks ago my surgeon felt I was doing well enough to not fill again at this stage.

I eat roughly between 600-900 calories per day.

I had sushi last night, and that went down fine- Im a chewing machine!

I usually have 1 weetbix with skim milk and a granulated sugar substitute for Breakfast. Either some steam fresh pre packaged fish with a scoop of mashed potato or a poached egg with smoked salmon for lunch and similar for dinner. Portions are between 130-200 grams .

I'm a little hungry now and again but nothing major.

Is this normal ? Am I eating enough or too much ? What, if anything should I be doing differently ?

Honestly, you need to ask your doctor or nutritionist that. Every doctor has a different idea what's right and what works best and only he knows what's best for you.

Anyone who answers here is going to go off their own theories and opinions, but the fact is there is no "right" or "wrong" diet to follow. It's all a matter of what works best for you.

Hi Megan, congratulations on your success to date. Chewing machine! I am pre-band and trying to practice chewing a lot and mindful eating so I will ready when the time comes. Your menu choices sound delicious and nutritious to me and it's great you are in touch with your doctor regularly to discuss adjustments to the band if and when needed. Good luck with all -- you are doing beautifully!

33 lbs is incredible. Why question success?

Megan you seem right on par for the timeframe you've been banded. Congrats on an amazing job. AND its great the doc doesnt want to fill you because of your superb results. Doc seems level headed basing fills not on time rather on the effectiveness of the band as it is.

Just remember, if anything changes (weight loss slows drastically, you start getting hungry consistently, eating larger volumes etc) than just go back to the doc and start up fills as needed.

But please don't post again because after reading yours Im suddenly hungry HAHAAH (j/k)

Thanks for your kind and supportive words ladies.!

I have spoken to my dietician and had a review and they suggest that, if anything,I could be eating more.I just don't feel the need to eat more than my body tells me is adequate . I wanted to bounce off others as I believe others experiences are a guide for those of us who are still finding our way : )))

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
