Hi! I'm one week post surgery and down 9 lbs! I'm pretty excited and was curious about others weight loss? Did you continue to drop as the weeks went by? Did you find it harder to lose weight as you began incorporating more food? Any suggestions on how to maximize losing the weight? Pointers? I'm not trying to break any records but definitely want to continue losing from week to week! So far so good though!!

posts like yours make me nervous. don't focus on the scale. you are very early on in your journey and like Missy says, what you're losing right now is Water. eat correctly, exercise, and the rest will take care of itself. pay attention to how clothes fit, how much better you feel (less joint pain/more energy) and all those other small changes that will show up all the time...fitting into a booth without issues, not worrying about sitting in a chair with arms, all kinds of things like that. good luck to you and remember...you didn't gain in overnight, and you won't lose it that way either.

I want to lose it all overnight ;-)

I gained a pound this week, I'm 6 or 7 weeks post op. I'm ok with it, but do admit to a little fear that I've topped out so soon. I know it is irrational, is just a week, and just a pound, but I'm kinda nuts. ;-)

Keep working at it, you can do it. Slow and steady losing is still losing!

I've had some ups and downs for the last 6 weeks (I get weighed every other week) - up .5, down 2, up .5, down 2.5. It's frustrating in those weeks when the scale goes in the wrong direction, but they're small amounts and could be something simple like too much sodium the day before or TOM.

My surgeon pairs us up with a mentor during the process so that we have someone to talk to who has been through it all. My mentor was like my twin - same starting weight, same surgery date (3 years apart), same health issues. She told me that she teetered back and forth until she got to the green zone and then the weight just starting coming off. I'm hoping that will be true for me, too :)

I'm almost six months out. The first couple of months I lost 10 pounds. Since then it's been a slow but steady 6 - 8 pounds . My doctor is really pleased with my progress and so am I. I'd love to lose a little faster but the end result is all that matters . I'm alittle over half way to my goal and hope to be there by sometime next summer. As long as I'm consistently losing and making progress toward where I want to be I'm happy.

its not a race....the journey is to arrive at the destination..

no matter how long it takes but as long as you get there.

Slow and steady is the name of the game. As long as you are seeing that downward trend then you're doing it right!!

Larger folks like myself tend to lose quicker but it is only a matter of time until that slow down hits.

Thanks for the responses and info! As it stated in my post, not trying to break any records, only trying to get an idea of what kind of weight loss everyone was experiencing since being banded. Research so to speak. I imagine everyone will lose differently for various reasons but it's nice to have an idea of what that may be. I'm pleased so far with my loss and I hope to report more every week :)

Unfortunately the averages are meaningless because the extrinsic variables (like starting weight, food selections, activity level) all play a part in the numbers and if you are not identical to those variables it doesn't apply.

I wanted to correct the above posters. The weight you have lost is a combination of Water and fat, not simply Water. That's a huge understatement. Many people struggle with getting even 500 cals into their bodies initially PLUS your body is working overtime to recover and heal. You bet you are burning energy and therefore fat.

Initially the tendency is to lose faster upfront because of the drastic decrease in calories plus the transitional stages makes the absorption of our meals easier. However, after large losses your body will reset if you will. It may require some adjustments (eat less, workout more etcetc). Additionally as you get further out you typically can eat more and experiment with more calorie enriched foods. Therefore wl may slow but this is also why we keep on top of the fills to make sure we don't overconsume :)

Your question is perfectly normal because the future is still unknown. Hope the answer helps

I can't believe you're weighing at 1 week out. I am 6 days post op and I don't want to weigh because I assume I will gain a little as I start eating again and I don't want to see it on the scale. Lol. I lost a lot on the preop diet so I'll let that carry me til my next appt next week. I will try not to focus on the scale until I am able to start a fitness program. Please don't get discouraged if things slow down for you. Your body is still healing and however it does that is ok...even if it means you don't dramatically transform in a week or two. Congrats on the loss so far though and Keep posting your progress! :)

I had my post op appointments yesterday... And they weighed me... I lost 16 pounds post op (surgery was September 17th). I started July 21st at 259.8 and I weighed in yesterday at 222.8. But last night I started a 5 week ground food diet so I expect the weight loss to slow way down.

      Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
      What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

      Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
      1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

        All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

      I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.

      Woohoo! I have 7 more days till surgery, So far I am already down a total of 20lbs since I started this journey.
