Forbidden Fruit...or meat, veggies, etc.

Just curious...are there any foods that you absolutely cannot tolerate eating since being banded? 98% of the time, I can't eat bread. I can eat scrambled egg whites but not 'regular' scrambled eggs. I can also eat the white part of a boiled egg but not the yolk. Also, 1/2 a glass of Moscato makes me TIPSY!

I don't have issues with anything passing through the band, or being uncomfortable going down. However, what I do notice is that there are certain fruits that give me a stomach ache; honeydew melon and pineapple....to name a couple. I haven't eaten all the fruits I used to eat, but I'm guessing I'll find more that no longer agree.

Weird on the alcohol, huh?? I heard people say that you get buzzed a lot quicker, and they were SO right! I can feel the first sip of wine. That's not to say that I don't drink the whole glass, but I've certainly become a cheap date - LOL (if I were dating) :P

I have problems with chicken, no matter how it's cooked. This has been a big change for me as we used to do a lot of chicken before. I avoid bread. Sometimes the sandwiches I fix for the kids school lunch look so good, but after being too tight for awhile and with the way some things feel tight going down, I know I would pay for it if I tried. I like apples too, but the skins are hard for me, so I peel those off. Sometimes eggs are ok, other times not so much....kind of strange!

I can eat anything as long as I eat small, chew big and take my time. It's when I don't follow those rules that I get into trouble.

I try everything. I can't chew lobster anymore. The only meat I can really chew well is filet mignon. I guess you just have to try. As for bread I eat the crust and not the doughy part. I had some for dinner and dunked the crust into olive oil with grated cheese. I know my dietitian is rolling her eyes as I write this, but if I do without, I will not stick to any weight loss plan. After all these years I know me better than she knows me.

Tomorrow is my birthday and a lot of area restaurants offer a free meal on your birthday. I live in Boston. So after talking it over we are going to a Japanese steak house. I will have the salad, shrimp, filet mignon (because it's tender) veggies and some rice. They offer Soup but I don't like soup.

I hope we all helped you.

I have issues with rice and extremely dry meats. Also I don't eat ribs! Other than that most things are ok. Either I have to chew more of can only handle is small amounts. Oh fish ... I have to always eat fish with something else or I have issues.

mrsto, I have been afraid to try pineapples because I think quite a few people have trouble eating them. LOL @ 'cheap date'. If I force down the whole glass, I'll probably be dancing on tables!

sp70, grilled chicken breasts were hard for me to eat at one point. Now, I can eat it if it's in a salad with dressing on it. People always tell me that just because I can't tolerate it one day, I might be able to at a later date!

2muchfun and carolinagirl, it took me FOREVER to get the small bites and lots of chewing down! I didn't have much restriction until after my 4th fill and as soon as I started eating solid food again, I experienced 'bandster hell' for the first time. UGHHHH

dylanmiles23, I'm afraid to try a lot of foods because of the horror stories I've heard! I guess I need to try some more foods, just not in public! These replies have helped me a lot. I appreciate the responses. I hope you have a great birthday!!! Enjoy your meal, it all sounds delish!

terrydumont46, several people have posted about not being able to eat deli meat, especially turkey! Weird, isn't it? I love to eat deli meat wrapped around string cheese.

myjoy420, I avoided rice like the plague up until a few weeks ago. I didn't have any trouble with it at all. I didn't eat a lot of it though. Dry meat is a no no for me too. I try to dip it in something to tolerate it better. I could only eat 1 turkey sausage link this a.m. because it was so dry.

Bread? That's funny. I can't eat the crust but the doughy part is fine. More proof of how individual we all are!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
