Foods you can't eat

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone. I was wondering if others have this issue. Are there foods that you just CAN'T eat? For me personally, I cannot eat, french fries (a good thing), hot dogs and some ground beef. If I even try, it gets stuck and my tum is irritated for the rest of the day. Just wondering if this is normal.

First, there are no foods I cannot eat...but there are foods that give my band more trouble than others....so to make life easier (and safer) I avoid them....

Plus, as it turns out, the foods I choose to alleviate from my diet, are not that healthy or nutritious in the first place...so I come out way ahead either way

People without the band avoid similar foods also...

For instance...Pizza...what am I missing out on? Globs of cheese don't cut it, not to mention pizza crust (dough)

Cake, doughnuts, pastries, pie, Bagels, and just about any bread, etc, etc....again, I'm ahead of the game here...

Red meat...have not had red meat in over 2 years, and all my Dr.'s love me for it!! They have been advocating this way before I had WLS....

So I basically cut out Red Meat, Wheat products (gluten) and dairy products...as a direct result of the band, but IMO it is a healthy lifestyle.

There are a few other things also...anything deep fried...chicken, fish, whatever...too crunchy..so I'm missing out on all that oil (fat) I quess...probably one of the reasons my arteries are now clear...

White rice is another one...

For me it's chicken. I still try and it gets me every time.

I agree with all mentioned above. I can do dark meat of chicken. But the white meat of chicken or a pork roast kills me. Also, it's always good to really chew everything. When I don't do that, it gets really bad. One time I was throwing up go a half an hour. I didn't chew, and it was what I ate. Slow down too. When I let myself get too hungry it happens then too.

i must be (lucky or weird or both)

there is nothing i cant eat...i just choose now not to eat some things as i now eat different than before...healthier proteins/veggies/fruit.. no issues with eating what so ever..i chew alot, take wee bites and go slow...reading before banding about stucks, slimes scared me enough to do what i am suppose to in order for that to not happen..knock wood so far.

Pork roast, no matter how I make it or how tender I cook it, just sticks there.

I suspect I could eat anything if I cut it up small enough, but I stick to band rules, which for me are:

No bread or breadlike products (hamburger Buns, pizza, etc)

No Pasta

No rice, couscous, or small grains that could "plug up" the stoma

No fibrous things like celery or asparagus. A really ripe peach would probably be too stringy/fibrous.

No big ol' gobs of sticky things like Peanut Butter, although I can tolerate a thin spread of Peanut Butter on melba toast and I use this for a snack.< /p>

Something I've noticed since being banded is that even looking/considering these items provokes a Pavlovian response in my mind. Right now at work there is a plate of pastries sitting out in the common room. Pre-band, I would have either eaten them or obsessed over them. Post-band? Just the idea of getting a hunk of bread stuck in my stoma turns me off immediately. This is the beauty of the band...naturally good choices are made, without that feeling of frustration.

Parisshel - I totally can relate to your pastries remark!!! I agree! In fact just this week a guy at work brought in doughnuts - two days in a row. And all I keep thinking about was: one don't go there and two I don't want it to get stuck!! I felt strong passing it up too! :)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
