Anyone take Lisinopril for high BP?

Recommended Posts

I've had a chronic cough for a while now, and it's getting worse. I was worried that it was acid reflux, but I really have no heartburn. I just found out though, that my BP medication has a side effect of a dry hacking cough. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Hi sol. i take lisinopril 20 mgs. daily and have not had any issues. I also work in the pharmaceutical industry and strongly suggest you discuss any possible adverse event with your doctor to determine if you should change medications. good luck.

I was started on lisinopril years ago and I also developed an annoying nonstop cough. When they switched me to something different, it went away. I also had a friend at work who developed a cough with it as well. I'd talk to your doctor about it. Hope you feel better soon!

I've been on Lisinopril for years, 20 mg at first currently on 40mg working on lower that dose back to 20mg, Sorry i don't have any issues with a Cough Dry or otherwise. Ask your Doctor about switching meds, it's not uncommon, and quite easy to do . If the Cough persists I'd check with your Band Surgeon it May be band related.

I was taken off Lisinopril because of the constant coughing. It's a common side effect.

It is a common side effect that not everyone experiences. Any of the ace inhibitors can cause this.

Thanks all. I'm going to stop taking it and monitor my pressure closely while I see if the cough gets better. My doctor actually only prescribed 3 months worth as my pressure was getting better from the weight loss anyway. I only have one refill left. Sooo...I'll see if the cough gets better and see if my BP is lower at the same time :-) If it's not lower, I will definitely see him to get something else. And if the cough doesn't get better I will mention it to my surgeon at my next appointment. Thanks again for all the responses.

I took Altace (an ACE inhibitor), and had to stop because of the hacking. I was switched to Diovan, which is a different class of blood pressure med. Had no issues with it.

not a good idea to stop taking your meds sol. call the doctor and check with him/her first before stopping. some meds cannot be stopped immediately and must be titrated off. lisinopril might not be one of them, but again, the doctor can confirm this.

Just wanted to add, you can have reflux without heartburn.

They call it silent reflux. I had it for years with no heartburn and was only found by the erosion in my esophagus before being banded. I now take Prilosec daily symptoms or not.

Please talk with your Dr and good luck.

I also took Lisinopril and developed a hacking cough but because it was during the winter my doctor and I associated the cough with having a cold. Took 5 weeks of coughing and several cold meds to figure out it was the Lisinopril. Two days after stopping, the cough was gone.

My husband and my aunt both take it, and they both have the cough. They have both been on it for years and the cough has not changed. It is annoying for them, but seems to be the drug that works best for them so they stay on it and deal with the coughing. Good luck.

When I was on lisinopril, (off all blood pressure meds), I did not develop a cough. I usually get all the bad side effects from meds! So, as others said call your doc!

This is a common side effect of ace inhibitors. Sometimes takes months to go away (if ever) once you stop taking it

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
