Numb areas after surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hey, I'm six days out of surgery. I just noticed a disconcerting numb spot on my stomach. It's fairly large- almost fist size, and it's below my port incision site, where no other incisions are. Anyone experienced this? Know what causes it or whether it is likely to go away?

Thanks in advance.

Sometimes there is local numbness after any surgery because nerves are damaged and/or cut. Most of the time the feeling will come back over time but others it can be permanent.

When in doubt, always ask your doctor.

I had a Tummy Tuck this past May and still have a lot of numbness all the way across my lower abdomen. It happens.

Its normal to have some numb spots. They cut nerves when they do surgery. The feeling will come back.

The feeling may or may not come back.

I had a c/s and have been permanently numb under the incision.

Neural recovery is one of longest recoveries that exist so be patient.

Not to be funny, but if the numbed site is over your port you may forego lidocaine prior to fills :) yeah... always think + lol

Some numbness is to be expected. I had a TT several years ago and part of my stomach is still numb...you get used to it!

I had my surgery in march and at six months out the feeling is starting to come back. Give it time...nerves take time to heal.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
