3 year anniversary and 105 gone.

Recommended Posts

I have read and heard so many negtive things about the lap band, All I can say to anyone reading this is that It was the best decision Ive ever made. Yes It took some serious life adjustments and the "getting to know each other" period was rough. I stayed dedicated to making this band work. If you read my old post you will know this hasnt always been an easy road. In the beginning I thought I needed to have this band so tight that i couldnt eat anything, well 3 years later and I'm much happier having it somewhat loose. yes I can eat more than some would like but I am controlling my weight through diet and exercise. Its my comfort knowing that If I fall off the wagon and weight starts coming back I can have my band tightened up. Thanks to the assistance to the band I have lost 105 pounds. I started this at 310 pounds and currently weigh 199-205 depending on the week. at first that fluctuation freaked me out but I've learned to accept it. honestly some weeks I work out harder then others. This summer I completed the tough mudder course which was 12 miles of obstacles and running. 3 years ago I could only dream of doing something like this. My band experience- the band works if you listen to your body, put in the additional effort and dont over tighten it. If you get the band and stay on the couch and live the same lifestyle as you did pre-band, You will likely be dissapointed with your outcome.

just some extra info to ponder....(you may disagree with this, but it works for me)

just one example of one day...

excercise for 1 hour each day 5-6 days a week. 530am

Running- 1-2 miles each day.

weight lifting- 2-3 days each week.

dailey protien shake after work out.

Breakfast 8am...1 cup of light yogurt with granola added in to help thicken it up.

snack....10am hand full of raw unsalted almonds

lunch....12noon healthy choice frozen meal 9-11 oz meal

snack....2pm handful of grapes or cheese stick

dinner... 6pm 10-12oz dinner- chicken or beef or fish and vegetables.

I drink dailey- 1 gallon of water-(or more)

I think you are doing great! Congratulations. You may be eating more at dinner than most but it works for you and your body and that is what counts.

My nephew did the Tough Mudder and loved it. Good for you.

Keep up the wonderful job and you will be happy in the long run.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
