I'm confused

Recommended Posts

I asked about the exact reasons for the post-fill diet restrictions and I was told by my PA that if I ate solids right away after a fill it could become stuck or I could vomit (which obviously no one wants to do). I follow a pretty strict post-fill diet and I just want to understand the specifics - the stomach is swollen after a fill, correct? And I understand that going slow and reintroducing the phases of food slowly is safe because each person experiences levels of restriction differently. Can anyone expand on this? My post fill diet is as follows:

3 days of Clear liquids

1 week of high Protein liquids and puréed foods (I can have yogurt, Protein shakes, sf pudding and puréed veggie soups)

1 week of soft foods (eggs, tuna with low fat mayo, flaky fish)

and then back to reintroducing regular foods slowly.

Thanks everyone!!

I think you will find everyone's post fill restrictions to be different. For example mine are only soft mushies for 2 days then resume normal eating/solids. So I'd follow what your doc says to do :)

all i can tell you is that each doctor has their own set of instructions based on their experiences with their patients. i am on liquids for 2 days mushies for 1 then back to regular as tolerated. and each of my fills has caused different reactions then the previous. i have had my share of unfills due to too much restriction and my fills are pretty small like.1 or .2.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
